Hate them. When target shooting I leave them off. When I am hunting I turn them on. I don't like the gun to make the decision for me.

I've grown so used to them on my Red Label that flipping them off as I raise the gun to my shoulder is completely automatic. I find ejection much more annoying.

I like the safety on the BT-99. They should all be that way.

Auto safeties along with release triggers and snap caps are the work of the Devil.

I shoot a little skeet in the summer at the Dollar. Many shooters are new and bring field guns with the auto safeties. They waste 4 or 5 targets each round because they forget to take them off safety.

Maybe a good idea for a hunting gun (though I never had one) but for clay targets, they are a pain.

I saw an episode of that series about underground places where they unearthed a 4,000 year old cavern where the walls were covered with graffiti art indicating occult worship and canabalistic sacrifice took place there. Among the relics they found were release triggers, automatic safeties and snap caps, so Tron's comment is spot on.

1 day of Skeet and I had the pliers out to rip it out. Most annoying thing I've ever seen on any gun that I've ever had.

Thanks for the responses. I personally think they are a pita and dangerous. You give a person a gun with an automatic safety and let them hunt with it and it alone for a couple years and then give them a gun without one because their gun is unavailable or torn up and you have a disaster waiting to happen.I have hunted with a gun that had the safety on top of the pistol grip behind the receiver, got used to taking it off as I raised the gun for a shot at a bird and then one day I went hunting with a gun that had the safety just ahead of the trigger guard---the bird sailed on and on as I pushed repeatedly on top of the grip for the safety that wasn't there.

I have one prerequisite of my guns that have safties. It must be located on the back of the receiver, and it must be manual.

I own a few Remingtons that were on the trigger guard, but that situation has been remedied with an Timney trigger install. I don't use these guns for hunting, just target shooting.

I don't know how many times I've seen the once-a-year pre-hunting season hunters come out to the range to warm up for the bird season and forget about the auto safety then turn around with a loaded gun and point it at everyone on the grounds.

Good for hunting - bad for clay target shooting.

I never seen a target shotgun with automatic safeties that was made in the past 40 years.
