    Australian Gun Law Update
Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts....
From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia

Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real
    figures from Down Under.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were
forced by a new law to
surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own
government, a program costing Australia taxpayers
    more than $500 million dollars.

The first year results are now in:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
    Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

    In the state of Victoria
lone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that
while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not
and criminals still possess their guns!)
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady
decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically
upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed
    that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and
assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home.

Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public
safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was
expended in 'successfully ridding Australian society of guns....' You
won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or
members of the State Assembly disseminating this information.

The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the
hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control
laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note Americans, before it's too late!
Will you be one of the sheeple to turn yours in?
    WHY? You will need it.

FORWARD TO EVERYONE ON YOUR EMAIL LIST.

I'd love to see some statistics from a legit web page to show people.

    Apparently from 2001.

Yu might consider checking facts from the Russian ITAR-TASS news over snopes.

    truth has no political agenda.

Remstar311 , Understand that if a liberal says the sky is blue, it is a lie but statistics from a conservative email source is the truth. No need to check it out.

I see someone else is drinking the Snopes Kool-Aid.

A typical example was the email circulating about Obama, wherein there were numerous facts listed about him. The number varied, but was generally in the 50 range.

Snopes cherry picked out only a handful of 'facts', showed they were in error, and then declared the ENTIRE document to be false, when in fact SOME of the other facts were quite true.

This is why they are unreliable.

If you want to believe them, fine, but don't expect those of us who have seen their cherry picking in action to buy into it.

Well, your post cited a defence for Snopes based up those criticising them failing to cite an example. I cited an example, but you still dismiss it.

I have used Snopes for fact verification, at least for non-political issues. But when it comes to politics, I get verification from other sources, because I believe Snopes has an agenda and is not totally trustworthy.

Need more proof that snopes, or any of the liberal news organizations are feeding you propaganda?

toolmaker, everyone should read your link.

I have given a link to a very good read on Aussie gun control updated to 2009.

There are some very telling observations, and I reccomend reading the whole thing.

A mass shooting in Port Arthur was the catalyst for the law. The important part of the whole frenzy was the junk science and inaccurate studies that were done by people with no criminology experience, that set the mind of the people to accept the laws.

With the mass shootings of the near term, there are of course going to be a multitude of calls for "gun control".

Giant Soda Bloomberg has already shot off his mouth.

Stay in contact with your legislator. We already have a massive health care bill that screws things up, more of the same will not be benneficial.

Snopes likes to tilt the results. Reading their take on this one leaves me dizzy and uninformed.

The link I posted gives the results:

"A lot of Australians became alienated from their governments and institutions. Irrational fears of people unfamiliar with guns may have been eased. Gun accident deaths inexplicably rose. Robbery rates popped up for several years (until '04). There was no perceptible, definite impact—good or bad—on burglary, serious assault, homicide, gun homicide, suicide or gun suicide."

From what gunsandcrime.org says, Al Gore would have been a perfect fit.

    About Aurora:
The Progressives, Metrosexuals,Womens organizations, medical groups, and Liberal pukes in general will be out for blood.

Non of whom Know diddly about guns or crime beyond what the controlled media feeds them.

Might be a bumpy ride here.

toolmaker, the link you posted is about " quote approval", not story line approval or propaganda.
