Mike: U heard about Jim Meyer? Just in case you haven't: He was hit by a car while taking his daily bike ride. Been in Lake trauma unit for two days now. That's all I know.

Jim is now in Room 413 at Lady of the Lake Hospital. I talked to him this morning. He was lucid enough to talk. He said he had "internal head injuries" but didn't expand and I didn't ask. He sounded OK for someone hit by a car. Lady of the Lake foner is: 225 765-6565.

Years ago, I rode high end road bikes around 10K miles annually. Bicycles, that is. The last organized ride I was on had an ambulance and support vehicles following the riders. The drivers were right up our behinds. A rider went down, was run over by the ambulance and died.

That was the last organized ride I ever went on. I have been run off the road twice by idiot drivers who were not looking where they were going. I cracked one helmet on the road, but it saved me from serious injury.

Neither car stopped, but kept going as is nothing had happened.

I don't ride much any more, have gone back to running in a gym.
