Do you know if there is a ruling for resting gun barrel on toe pad while shooting ATA targets?

    Thanks, Larry Moses

Here in IOWA they do not let kids use their foot for a gun rest in H.S. trap
    shooting competition.
Supposedly some kid was closing his single barrel with his foot [repetedly] and it went off with the expected result. [do not know if the story is true or not
it was told to me by the Ia. DNR shotgun coaching/trainer.]
I am sure that this could have been prevented if some one would have confronted him.

ATA Rules, Section IV, I, 18: "While not prohibited, the practice of resting the muzzle of a shotgun on a shooter’s toe is ill-advised and is discouraged."

Maybe we could get Obama to include it in OUR NEW HEALTH CARE, since ATA doesn't govern it for us.

I believe that is an SCTP rule for the youth. AIM might have followed suit but it is not confirmed.

    mojet,

While there isn't an ATA ruling against toe tabs there are rules against youth using them in both 4H and SCTP at least in TN (adults affiliated with those groups are urged not to use them in front of youth).

    Top Single DT10,

There's a frequent TS poster that offers a round gun pad for considerably cheaper and frequently offers discounts.

    My 2 Cents,

Though I've never seen a rule against it, it seems like a very unsafe thing to do. I would not let a student of mine do it, and when we teach the Scouts we don't allow it. As a Hunter Ed. instructor I call it foolish and unsafe behavior in my classes. Familiarity breeds contempt, and that leads to accidents.

I see nothing wrong with it when shooting a break open gun. I do see a problem with pump's and auto's.

TNcoach, I believe you have your pricing backwards, Foxy's unit and my preference also, the rectangular "Original Magnetic Gun Rest" sells for $10.00
the other for $11.50. Thought you might want to know. J.W.

If a gun is fired on these magnetic rests of which are placed directly infront of the foot, I would think undesired circumstances would arise similar to resting said barrel on toe of shoe. If one shouldn't be allowed then maybe neither should.

    Literalist,

Obviously, you don't shoot a Japanese-made gun. My BT-99 went off on me the other day, and I didn't even have a shell in it.

I think it's an electrical problem.

The link, with graphic pics, shows why pointing a muzzle at your foot is a stupid idea.

Magnetic barrel rests are useless with my guns. I use extended choke tubes of non-ferrous metal.

I can't find the link with the other guys pad listed, but only heard that Foxy's pads were going up to offset costs? I've bought quite a few of Foxy's pads, but find them a distraction moving from one station to the station.

I was recently at a club that had cut up old tires into small squares and left them on the field for anyone that cared to use them. I know you don't want to use one for your P-Gun, but it promotes safety to youth, doesn't drain the wallet, and keeps the squad moving better.
