If the article is accurate, why would the ATA start dismantling the museum now when there is no agreement on a new building for the museum. Is the museum being evicted from its present location?

Doesn't it make sense that the ATA main office should also be in Sparta?

We should have learned our lesson in Vandalia. You cannot count on government goodwill. We were at the mercy of the City of Vandalia and the Airport Commission for our existence in Vandalia. Now we will be at the mercy of the state of Illinois for the existence of our Hall of Fame. If we are going to move the HoF to Sparta and erect a building we should buy the plot of land upon which it is located. Perhaps we could purchase a small parcel adjacent to the WSC or across the street but we should not be paying to build a HoF on someone else's property. JRM

The sky isn't falling, despite claims to the contrary. While scratching in his yard, perga1 was hit in the head by a pebble which fell from the roof. Since the pebble came from above where the sky was, perga1 was concerned. "I need to go and tell WPT that the sky is falling," perga1 told yard-mate Alf-99, who decided to come along. And on their way, they spread their warning to every group of Buckeyes, Spartan's, Illini, and Nittany Lions that they met. And each time they stopped to tell the tale, more worried allies joined the cadre to warn WPT....

It used to be owned by the ATA but I believe ownership was transferred to the City of Dayton as part of the deal to vacate. I may be wrong but that is how I remember it. JRM

This is good. If they charge a small fee to tour the Hall, this should help with upkeep, and more (young) shooters can see the history behind the sport.

The city of Vandalia had no choice in the matter, that land and the airport are on city of DAYTON property. Many of us Vandalians knew and appreciated the value of the Ohio State Shoot and the Grand American in our community every year. But we had to sit on the sidelines while the city of Dayton and the ATA butted heads. In the end, we all lost. Do not confuse the city of Vandalia with the idiots directly south of us.

skrap, I believe I did say it was the City of Dayton who owned the airport. scrap, great game BTW.
BigM, not to belabor the point but I have never seen or heard of a government body that cared even a little bit about how much money the taxpayers had invested in anything, especially Illinois. I hope someone connected with the ATA arranges for a 99 year lease or a purchase of the parcel upon which they build the HoF. JRM

Personally, I would invest in a piece of property in Sparta and build it there because I have lived in the State of Illinois and know how fast things can change (not saying they will, but saying they can) ... Property values are down and land is cheap in Sparta, besides that at least the ATA would own something ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

The ATA & The Hall of Fame have a close relationship but are entirely separate entities with different boards. The ATA is not involved in the relocation of the Hall of Fame. The words ATA do not appear in the Hall of Fame’s legal name. The current H of F receives few visitors with no attendant shoots. The Grand, the US Open, US Open Skeet and a myriad of other proposed activities at WRSC would provide an influx of visitors.

Our Executive Director & Board share a concern regarding our present security, fire detection, fire retardant, roof leaks, etc. The responsible decision is to seek proper archival storage, climate controlled, etc . . . . as soon as possible.

Upon completion of the new building, most likely adjacent to the Event Center at the WRSC, our priceless artifacts & collections will be readily moved to their new display areas.
We recognize the need to have deeded property or a 99 year lease; other issues will likely surface in the planning stages.

We are in the preliminary design stage, too early for pre-construction estimates, etc. We simply needed TO COMMIT to the relocation process and bring the Trapshooting Hall of Fame and Museum to the Grand American!!

Jim, I hope your designers will consider making the outside of the new museum look like the old one from Vandalia......

Jim Bradford brought up a point that few people seem to know. The HOF and museum IS NOT part of the ATA. While the two are closley related , the HOF and Museum are not controled by the ATA. There were several people bashing the BOD and EC about the move saying there was no VOTE by the ATA. There wasn't because the the ATA is not the one making the decision. While many within the ATA are involved with the HOF Museum, they are two seperate organizations. By the way I DO agree with the move. There is no sense in having a museum where almost no one visits and the only activity is dusting off the trophies.
