I have been using 700x (16.4 grains # 27 bushing) for my 1 ounce loads. cb1100 wad with win 209 in old style AA hulls. I really like this for 16yds and skeet/ sporting clays. I have 8 lbs of red dot I would like to use up. The alliant manual calls for about 21 grains and this is almost 1300fps. wouldn't red dot be a little faster than the 700x? I kind of like the slower load. Anyone have a similar load? Thanks.

I use 18.0 of PROMO, the equivalent of Red Dot, with a Green Duster wad.

I use 17gr Red Dot in and STS hull with TGT-12 wad and 1oz shot and either STS209 or W209 primers. About 1150fps. Very nice, consistent load.

Load exactly the same as zzt. Good load. Ran out of RD and had 15lbs. of 700x. Loaded everything with same components with 15.8gr. of 700x. Like it also. Steve

I also load the same recipe as ZZT. The only difference is that I use Fiocchi primers. Ed

Yep. I actually switched from 700x to red dot. All I load is 1 oz and the red dot was very nice.
    STS Hull
    20 grains Red Dot
    Win 209
    TGT12 wad
    1oz 7.5 or 8s.
if you are using the WAA12 wad, back off the powder amount about a half grain.

Another one to try if you get bored is 21-22grains Green Dot, TGT or Rem equivelent wad, Rem 209, 1oz in an STS hull. I think you will be more than pleaseantly surprised how you can have such speed and a pretty soft recoil.

BMC: 20 grains of Red Dot?? Wow. That's almost 3 grains more than I throw. I guess "whatever works"; but it sure seems like a lot of powder. Ed

Go to the Alliant website and pick your load, there are many. And use a scale to check your bushing drop. Check the powder drop with each lot of powder as there can be a significant difference between lots of the same powder. Okieshootist (David H)

18 grs.Red Dot,waa12 wad,1oz. shot, w209 primer AA or Rem. hull.1200 fps source Reloading for shotgunners.Loads real nice in new style AA since it is a 11/8 wad and a 1oz load you don,t get the buckle.

Your components with 17.5 to 18.5 grains of Red Dot or Promo. 17.5 grains should get you a bit under 1200 fps. Depending on which gun I use, they have chronographed at about 1150 - 1195.

Ed, that recipe was the closest I have gotten so far to mimicing the Fed Game 1oz loads @1290fps.

I have used Red Dot now for many years. Very versitile in the usage of different grains. 18-19 grains for Long Handycap 24 to 27 yards. For Shorter Handycap 16 to 23 yards 16-17 grains. This all with 1 oz. Shot and the CB1100 wad.Rich.(inPeoria,Az.)
