I inherited 12 pounds of 800X and I know there are loads listed with it for 1 1/8 ounce. I was just wondering if anyone uses it. It seems to me I tried to load it several years ago and had trouble dropping consistent loads with my Mec 650 or 600 JR whichever I was using at the time.
    Thanks tripod

My drops seem very consistent. It's a very dense powder. With my universal charge bar, there's not much of a setting change between 17.5gr of ClayDot and 23 gr of 800x.

    Fed Gold Medal Hull, 23gr 800x, Win209, WAA12 wad, 1 1/8 oz. 7000 psi @ 1200 fps.

The barrel looks like you've been shooting mud out of it after a few rounds, but it really breaks targets well out of my 686. If you shoot a couple of clean burning loads out of it afterwards, there is no 800x residue that I can see.

800X does not meter well unless you operate your loader in brisk and consistent manner. It is not a powder to pussyfoot around with. Let the handle bump at the top and bottom of the stroke. 800X makes some excellent 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 ounce hunting loads.

I tried to use 800X many years ago for some 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 oz. "games" loads. My normal powders were Herco and Blue Dot but I thought that 800X might be an improvement. I was using Federal High Power Game plastic hulls, Federal 12S4 wads and Federal 209 primers. I load my "games" loads on a single stage MEC Sizemaster 77.

My experience was that while some loads shot well, some had a lot more recoil than others. 800 X was no improvement over Herco and Blue Dot. I lost confidence in my 800X loads and went back to my Blue Dot and Herco loads.

I remember hearing other shooters record disappointments with 800X, especially in cold weather

I am sure that with careful reloading practices, that you can put together a quality reload with 800X. However, I like Herco better.

Tripod; I have used a couple of kegs of it for annies, handicap, and second shot on doubles.I felt it was lower recoil than unique.Maybe just me but I liked and had no trouble with it at all.

Thanks guys. I loaded 20.3 grains in old AA's with AA wads, Win primers 1 1/8th ounce shot (1150 fps)and they worked perfectly with no bloopers and hit targets from 25 yds as well as any loads I have used. Think I am going to use it all up myself!

    Works real well for game loads. Buffered 1 1/4 & 1 3/8 loads. ;)

Yes it works well w/ 1 1/8th oz loads in STS hulls 23.5 w/windjammer wad and 22.5 w/AA wad both at 1250fps.

In AA hull book calls for 24.0 grs w/windjammer and WAA12 wad @1250 fps.
