It's clearly French made; you can see the damage from being dropped shortly after being issued!

Long time ago I had an 8mm Lebel. The bullet would tumble after about 75 yards. It was the loudest gun I ever heard with it's 20" barrel.

They issued white flags with them so they could surrender before dropping them on the ground ... If you got an original with the flag it could be worth something ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Patton said "I would rather have a Werhmarch division in front of me than a French division at my back". There must be truth in "Never fired, dropped once."

Aw, now boys..... don't be so hard on France. At least give 'em credit for being smart enough to figure out they don't have to fight - since they can always depend on the U.S. of A. to do their fighting for them.

So, they can stay home, drink wine, make love and hurl insults at the U.S. such as, "Stupid American Fooo-els". Hmmmm! Now that I think about it.......

How many men does it take to defend Paris? No one knows, it's never been tried.

Why are there trees along the sides of French streets? So the Germans can march in the shade.

"The only war the French ever won was the French Revolution, when they defeated...themselves..."

Seriously though, their help during OUR revolution was vital.
