Holy Jeepers, You found some old stuff. If you're serious I have a friend that used to load that for handicap back in the 70's, LOL. Spread it out somewhere and put a match to it and watch the different burn rates. That's what I did with some old powders.

Shoot well and often while we can, Bob

I think I used to use al-5 to load ounce and a half with it back in the 70's. Can't remember the grains or what wad went with it though. If I remember correctly it had yellow or white flecks in it.

How much of it do you have? I have loaded lots of AL 7. Very good stuff to. If you want to sell it I would be interested in buying it. If not I can give you some recipes.

From the first edition Lyman Shotshell Handbook...

AL-5 -- A dense progressive burning shotshell powder which we used for 12, 16, and 20 ga loads.

AL-7 -- A dense, very progressive burning powder for magnum loads using heavy shot charges.

Part of the problem with loading data for these powders is that many of the hulls, wads, and primers listed aren't made any more. For instance, here is one listed load...

Remington Peters "All-American" plastic target case

    26.5 grains Alcan AL-5 powder

    Alcan 220 Max-Fire Primer

    Alcan Flite-Max Wad

    1 1/4 oz shot

    10,200 LUP pressure

    1245 fps

I have no idea how to load those powders with modern components.

You better have a lot if you plan on using it. Hardly worth the effort if only a couple pounds.

I have the first handbook, too. It doesn't look real easy for you.
