I have a box of mostly Winchester 12 ga solid brass shells there are 25 total with 5 being Remingtons. I have checked with Winchester and the best estimate they can give as to the date is Pre WWI and I am hoping someone here can recommend a better reference or source so I can continue the research. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Justin

My guess is that they are Korean or late wwII vintage. I have maybe 50 of these that my dad brought back from Korea. I reload them with BP from time to time. Originally, they were loaded with 00 buck or BB shot. Maybe to a collector they might have value but too many companies mke replacements today to make them "special" to shooters. Do come of yours have the star crimp? that is to say, a crimp formed by saw-toothed teeth that fold over of do they just have a simple case mouth crimp with an over-shot wad?

I think they'd freeze up in Alaska ;) Besides your going to be too busy taking care of dogs to do anything with them...

As far as I can tell they were never shot. All the primers are still in place and there is no crimp just a straight edge all the way around the shell wall. There is a lot number on the box W.R.A. 22010 is what prompted the folks at Winchester to give an approximate age. The box does say it's for No. 00 Buckshot for use with small game. These were found when cleaning out the gun club vault where Trident (Did) and I shoot. There are no stamps on the base other than Winchester No.12. Anyhow if you have a reference I would apprecaite it.

    Thanks OMGB...

I have one brass Winchester 12 ga., in my collection of odd balls as I'm not too serious of a collector, but it has all the way around the rim a series of "teeth". I have never seen another like it. I bought it at a garbage sale. Anyone have any knowledge ot this?

We shot brass shotgun shells in 1971 in Viet Nam.

We used them when I was a brig chaser at camp Lejune. Had to carry Winchester trench guns.

    Foggy,

Oddly enough I don't.. I do have quite a few but with the exception of when I wear shorts very few people get to see them. If I get a chance this week I might upload some.
