Well the dog days of summer are here, so why not another thread with pics of our best friends? The big fellow in the foreground is my now-retired pheasant hunter. His 2 yr. old cousin, Mom's dog, is just getting serious about the grouse. Luka and Ellie May. Bill

Me with my Chesapeake Rocky a few weeks ago. He is not quite 2 1/2. He has been running AKC field trials and hunt tests again this year with some success. He took second in a Qualifying at Salt Lake City over Mothers' Day weekend, making him a qualified all-age retriever. He needs one more pass for his Senior Hunter title. He has done beautiful work in a bunch of them, and then broken on the honor. He seems to think that the other dog doesn't deserve to get a bird. Hopefully we have him convinced otherwise now. He will run a Qualifying Friday south of Evanston WY, and a Senior Hunt Test a week from Sunday in Berthoud CO.

This is a picture of my grandson Eli with a litter of Chesapeake puppies taken a couple of weeks ago. They are half-siblings to my dog Rocky (same sire, different dam). I think they are seven weeks old today, and one may still be available. The others are going as far away as PA, MO, and CO (several). If you want further info, shoot me a PM and I'll send you contact info.

We have had the good fortune to have three great dogs of hunting breeds over the years but when our last German shorthair pointer had to be put down at age 14, we replaced him with the lap dog my wife always wanted. Our dog now is a Cockapoo named Brady, shown here doing what he does best.

We were dog-sitting our son's shorthair, Jake, during a day when we were having some work done on our condo, so we penned the dogs in with me in my office so the guy could actually get something done. You can see that they were quite curious about what was happening on the other side of the door.

Finally, a shot of our late shorthair, Maxx, impatiently holding a pose with our son while I took a photo for a gun review on the L.C. Smith side-by-side in Jason's hands.

Dogs - what would we do without them?

The summer heat in Indiana is bad. Not much to do except stay in the AC and lay on the couch. Our Lab Gertie knows how to relax!

This is my granddaughter McKenzie with one of the female pups. So far pups have gone to PA, CA, CO, and MO. One goes to WA tomorrow or Friday, and I'm taking two more to CO next Wednesday. There is one female still available.

I had to put "DC" (Dark Chocolate) down at 19 months because of a toxic reaction to HARTZ flea and tick treatment. He was a great companion and obviously a very smart dog.
