Probably didn't spell her name right. I saw her on TV last night in Afganastan in a veiled outfit showing an "actresse's" concerned face while whitnessing the plight of poor children. I feel for them, I do. I think she is sincere about helping them. I also think she has had a big impact on the "trend" in Hollyweird adopting foreign children (I wonder what will become of them when the new wears off, they can't have much of a home life) everybody out there seems to be doing this now.
BUT what about the starving kids right here in my Mississippi county? What has Angelina done here. Oprah is from here and supports efforts in Africa. What has she done here? What have they done for your local area? These people owe their fortunes to the people here. I don't think Africans and Afganastini's are much on movie going, book buying or cable TV suscribers.
I guess it's true that a dollar goes farther in third world countries per child and their dollar feeds a higher percentage of kids, but dog gone it, we have hungry AMERICANS.
My wife teaches children everyday that live in houses with no running water, beaten, abused, neglected. We buy, collect, and give clothes to kids where we can and make it a point to never let them know where it comes from and we are not the only ones. What could Oprah and Angelina accomplish here?
I applaud them but I feel that CHARITY SHOULD START AT HOME.

What has Oprah done here? She is a very large and major contributor to Obama's campagne.

Good one Jimbo, Jimette even laughed out loud!

Angelina Jolie? We gave up movies all together because we can't stomach looking at those people in Hollywood anymore (except for a few like Tom Selleck)...

    Angelina Jolie Touts Gun Ownership

When it comes to worldview, Angelina Jolie is gaining fame for standing out from the Hollywood crowd.

After meeting with Gen. David Petraeus a while back, Jolie made clear her preference that the U.S. not withdraw from Iraq as quickly as some prominent Democrats wanted to.

Well known for her work as goodwill ambassador for the U.N., Jolie has made more than 20 visits to countries with human rights violations and, along with companion Brad Pitt, given millions to related charities.

Most recently, Jolie is talking as if she’s adopted some of the late Charlton Heston’s viewpoints.

The actress reveals that she and Pitt are gun owners and keep firearms in their home.

“I bought original, real guns of the type we used in ‘Tomb Raider’ for security. Brad and I are not against having a gun in the house, and we do have one,” Jolie tells the U.K. Daily Mail.

In case you’re wondering whether a Malibu celeb would really use a firearm for self-defense, Jolie supplies the answer: “Yes, I'd be able to use it if I had to. I could handle myself. I think there are certain combat skills that would come out.

“If anybody comes into my home and tries to hurt my kids, I've no problem shooting them,” the someday Mrs. Pitt says. (Angelina apparently envisions eventual nuptials, saying, “I'm sure one day we'll do it.”)

Adding to her newfound gun owning rep, Jolie has been spotted with a machine gun pendant around her neck, a reported Mother’s Day gift from Brad fashioned in the shape of a drawing made by son Maddox.

Jolie is raising her children with an understanding, too, that the world contains good and evil.

“It's just not a reality in this day and age to say, ‘I'm never going to let my kids watch a movie that has a gun in it.’ It's important to know that this exists,” she explains.

“But I'm very clear with my children about who's a good guy and who's bad. If they're watching a movie at home and they say, ‘Is that a bad guy, Mummy?,’ I say, ‘Well, is he trying to hurt somebody? If you see somebody picking on a person or starting the fight, that's the bad guy.’”

Makes one wonder if Jolie’s dad, actor Jon Voight, has had an influence on her current beliefs.

Although they’ve had some problems in their relationship and gone for long periods without communication, Jolie recently talked with her father via phone.

“We've had a difficult relationship,” she admits, adding that it has been important for her to “distance myself from it, because it was unhealthy.”

“But I called him and we've spoken recently. We're going to try to see each other. I don't think we'll ever have that daddy-and-daughter relationship, but maybe we can get to know each other as friends,” Jolie says.

Two people who believe in protecting and guiding the ones they love? Sounds like the basis for a beautiful father-daughter reconciliation.

You are right there is plenty to do right here at home. Each and everyone of us can do something to help. Donate some of your wild game to a food bank, donate to a coat for kids. Go to Turkey shoots and win as many as you can and then donate them to a food bank, if you don't win any go buy some and donate them.

I personally pick 3 or 4 local groups, do it anomously and it will make you feel good.

    Don

PS: You trash talkers, jokesters take your crap somewhere else, there are plenty of threads. This is a serious problem that needs addressing, see if you are adult enough to respect it.

As an American she has the right to donate her money and time where she sees fit. A starving child anywhere in the world is a crying shame. I admire both her efforts and those that act more locally.

The problem with them doing the same thing in the States where the help is needed just as desparately is they would not get the publicity as when they do it in some down 3rd world country ... They are publicity seekers first and foremost because that feeds their egos ... Its funny how all of the so called "Elite" know whats best for everyone but cannot keep their own noses clean ... Angelina Jolie got a serious lip problem, looks like they are all cracked from sucking lemons or something ... Makes you wonder how pompous people can really be unless the cameras are on ...

I hate to say this but I totally agree with Big Don on this one ... (Damn, did I say that ..?) ... lol ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Regarding Oprah, it is storied that her new chauffeur got lost on one of the Chicago toll roads and when they stopped at a toll plaza Oprah buzzed her window down and asked the toll taker "How do I get to 155?" He told her to quit eating so much and losing about 100 pounds might do it.
