The measure, the first of several gun-related bills to reach the governor, allocates $24 million in surplus funds to hire dozens of additional special agents to tackle a backlog of 40,000 weapons in the hands of people not allowed to possess firearms.

Surplus funds??? The state can't balance a budget and is deeply in debt. Talk about being mentally ill...

    ZGUN,

What gov't have you known not to make a mistake and be able to correct that mistake when they make it? Some poor Schmole is going to lose a lot of money on one of their mistakes and knowing how Commiefornia does business, they will say sorry but we don't have the money to pay you for collection that we destroyed. OOPS!

So Ironic- Barker- big dog, etc who always say take guns away from the criminals and mentally unfit dont like it when it happens?

How would you propose we take guns away from them without taking guns?

    Duh?

But I admit it is a slippery slope.

    Regards from Iowa

In Erie County New York they told a man to turn in his guns....then had to admit they had the wrong man by the same name. Lawsuit! I am sure the innocent law abiding man will win in court. I hope it is enough to bankrupt our state and results in re-election defeat for our governor. ed

But the seriously mentally ill and criminals are in facilities, right? So normal folk on the outside can keep their guns...so who is this law for?

"How would you propose we take guns away from them without taking guns?"

GEE there is a backlog of 40,000 firearms in the hands of people not allowed to possess them. Tell us Gene what would be wrong with taking them away on conviction. Or do you advocate waiting until there is a large backlog?

One of the duties of the state is to enforce the laws they pass. This is a clear cut case of failure to do so. Now it is a burden of the state to the tune of $24,000,000. I wonder what the state would have saved if it enforced the laws that they made.

They made laws to get the guns out of the hands of those that violate those laws. Then they only do half the job by not taking the guns when the individual is convicted. Gene seems to think we should all agree with them.

"who always say take guns away from the criminals and mentally unfit dont like it when it happens?"

You are right I don't like it because I don't believe there is any excuse for not doing when it should be done. Just another case of waiting so they can say, look at us we are do this to protect you!!!!!!!! BS

I totally understand why some of you are worried. LOL

With the other hand, weren't some of you complaining just recently about not prosecuting criminals, that are not supposed to have guns?

So....they are only enforcing laws that have been in place. How is this a problem? Certified crazies and convicted felons shouldn't HAVE guns. Bill

Making another law to enforce the previous law? Or changing the criteria for mental illness to people that take Viagra and such?

Some of you bafoons argue just for the sake of arguing.

The role of government is to ensure the safety of it's people. Sounds like that is what they are doing, all while abiding by the Bill of Rights.

To argue that this "confiscation" is unjust or inappropriate is simply exposing your unwillingness to think and use logic.

So Bill you think the cows in the pasture across the street are mentally ill?

(That was a joke, that's what I see when I look around me. Get it?)

    548,

We have the God given right to protect ourselves and our possessions. And it is we the people who are supposed to protect our government.

Gods vary depending on who you talk to or where you live. So let's talk about your second point. How is it that the "people" protect the government and where is this edict written?

Bigdog, you might be right, I may have mental health issues because I feel an impulsive need to rip the comma button off your computer.

For you useful-idiots that completely trust the people that are currently in charge of your government, let me remind you: It's the floating definition of "government protection" that has caused more harm than cancer.

What is the definition of 'mentally ill' enough to confiscate bill of Rights protected possessions? In the anti-bellum south blacks weren't allowed to possess firearms, or vote - 'government protections'.

Lynchings were 'government-sanctioned'. Wounded Knee. Prohibition, and today's ATF.

Is OCD enough 'mental illness' to disqualify a citizen? Who decides, a stone cold liberal that prefers trees and cows to humans?

Man, it just goes one and on........ but, of course your government has never overstepped it's bounds, or contrived a circumstance....has it?

    You just can't change liberal-paranoid-stupid.

"How is it that the "people" protect the government and where is this edict written?"

Well where is this written, while you are telling stories.

"The role of government is to ensure the safety of it's people."

I don't find that tactic that you are using as being fair and equal. You tell us where the statement you are using is written. Then you can ask where the other other is written.
