I was informed today by both of my regular target load suppliers that they are out of Federal Top Guns and will have no more for the remainder of the year. Federal management informed both distributors that their warehouses are empty, and that no more TG's will be made in 2012. Oddly enough, both distributors have plenty of Estates, and were told by Federal that there would be no shortage of them for the shooting season.

Anyone have any additional information? Thanks.

That explains the shortage. LOL. Now, why aren't they making them for the rest of the year. Did they get into manufacturing Snowblowers.

Guess I better go buy 50 flats today, so I don't miss out.

I could make 2 trips and make it a hundred!

    Panic, panic, panic!

Future add in "for sale" section, "for sale, 12,000 dollar trap gun. Will take 100 dollars or best offer :)

Yes, there's gonna be an ammo shortage so get used to it. Remington trap loads-non-existant. Federal may have Gold Medals in June for delivery. Light Estates are drying up. There's still plenty of AA's in the pipeline until they're gone too!!

Oh, lord, what am I going to do?

I have just a little under a hundred new flats and only enough components for 15,000 reloads or so

Just bought a flat of Top Guns from Dick's. That being said, it was the ONLY ones they had. No boxes on the shelf. Been sitting on rebates for 8 more flats for 7+ weeks now. Something's up -----

I'm sure the ammo mfgs are running metallic presses full tilt until the election, having learned their lesson after being caught flatfooted after the last election.

My buddy runs a couple gun shops down about 45 mins north of NYC. He had one customer come in and buy $50k worth of 9mm and 45acp for his families personal use.

Lots of panic buying, but I doubt it will get as back $ wise and availability wise as last time. Mfgs have wised up, and a lot of what was panic bought last time is still sitting in closets.

Just for the halibut I shot off an email to Federal on their CustServ address this morning. This is what I got back:

Is there any basis to the reports that no more Federal Top Gun target shells will be produced in 2012?
    Thanks!

No that is an untrue statement.

    Thanks

Why would anyone care if the shell they bought was a Top Gun or an Estate?

They are both Federal shells. The color on the outside is the only difference. Cut them open and check.

I have taken them all apart, they are all the same, but the blood red shells in the TopGun and Walmart are only good for 16,'s as the bright red Estate hit harder and are better for the 27......................hey, I'm just kidding!

Some say if you weigh equal volumns of the same size shot, the Estate shot will be lighter. This would be because it has more antimony. FWIW Ron
