I like to hear comments from Alfermann users. The good, the bad,
    the ugly.

No bad. I've owned 2. I think they are one of the best built guns out there. If you need it their service is excellent.

So who makes them, where can you get them, what do they run on basic guns? etc.

Not a better built gun period ,you won't find better people to deal with and you won't find a better trigger in any gun.

I own two. Fantastic trigger, both in pull and release. You can switch from pull to release very easily and from eject to lift very easily. Very heavy guns at about 11 lbs, but that keeps the recoil very light. I would love to have an adjustable rib, which mine do not have. I think they made the later ones with them. If you are patient, you can find one here on TS.com now and then. Expect to pay around $5k+ for a good used one. Don't think you can go wrong with one if you are looking solely for a SBT gun.

@Dave P,,,,,Made by a couple great brothers in southern Missouri. One of the best places to get then is from Merlyn Petersmeyer (sp?). Sign on name here is merlynstrapguns. Great guy and makes some deals,,,,,,,I know he really likes peach ice cream and it is rumored as well that he has a fancy for "boiled peanuts" although I don't know this first hand.........

I voice the same comments about Alferman Guns as being one of the best guns out there in todays market.

Merlyn is great to deal with. Alferman brothers are the greatest and they listen to shooters.

Gun is fairly heavy but points quick. Super release trigger. I own a Krieghoff and Perazzi combo but the Alfermann is my favorite by far.

I was told by Merlyn that the Alfermann brothers started the company
as a way to put their kids through college. Very limited production,
about 25 per year. I was a little reluctant to buy one as there is such
little info about the company. No web site, no catalog. Looks similar
to a Silver Seitz, but different internally. Opens like a Seitz by
pulling the trigger guard to the rear. Bottom line is I bought one
from Merlyn with the adjustable rib at the Missouri State Shoot. I agree regarding the quality of the trigger pull. The trigger travel distance to set the release is app. .030 It was a please dealing with Merlyn. He's a
    no B.S. guy.

Nice Alfermann for sale at Hi Grade shooters supply in Irwin Pa. It has an adjustable rib also.

The Alfermann at Hi Grade is not the normal adjustable rib trap gun. I have a Silver Dollar Special. The gun pictured has an adjustable point of impact by replacing the rib. Merlyn told me the guns were very limited production and as I recall each gun came with two different ribs. It's a very unique system, the rib floats as it merely slides on the muzzle end and then you attach the rear of the rib by accessing a bolt at the chamber end. I'm fortunate in that my gun purchased used did come with two different POI ribs. Super slick as befits the ingenuity of the Alfermann boys.

I have a Silver Dollar Special, which I love. It replaced my Krieghoff, which now sits in my safe. Anyone who shoulders it also loves the feel. I wanted to convert the pull trigger to release, and called Gary Alfermann, who did it for me quickly, and at a very reasonable cost. He was a pleasure to deal with. I couldn't recommend a better gun.
