100 Straight, There are bad apples in every bunch. I wish this were not true but it is a part of the fallen nature of man.

Ring knocker? My understanding is a "Ring Knocker" is a commissioned Officer, who graduated from one of the military academies and sports a typically huge class ring. The knock is generally done on a table top to quiet a room or to declare where one's roots are. Never heard it as a derogatory term for Free Mason before.

100 Straight, Masons are like a barrel of apples, there may be a couple of rotten ones there but you will never find a barrel that has been culled over
more. I am sorry you had a bad experience, I assure you that is not the norm.
I have run upon those wearing the ring that didn't pass the exam, politely told them they needed to remove it. They are out there. A real Mason wouldn't even think of treating anyone that way. J.Woolsey PM Buffalo lodge #172 Sanford NC 1985.
