While he should have stepped down, there are several other CEO's that should do the same,,,,,BUT, do we REALLY want the government, who can't run a lemonade stand, telling industry WHO can stay and WHO has to go????

This government is really getting TOO BIG and is sticking their nose into things that it really shouldn't be under a capitalistic system,,,,oooohhhhh, I get it, they want to get rid of the capitalistic system and go to a GUBMENT run one!!!!!

Free enterprise includes the possibility of failure.

Killing it will also kill capitalism. Wait till they tell you a Yugo type car made of recycled plastic is the best possible car That can be made and that's what you are allowed to have.

    Ref: Trabant, East Germany, 1970's.

I agree. It is the job of the BOD/shareholders to dismiss the CEO.

Maybe Wagoner needed to go, but it is NOT the call of the President, or Congress.

Soon Pelosi will be telling us what kind of cars should be produced and how many.

Every week, my fear for our Country and the direction we are going increases.

When recieving help, finacial or other, the recipient should expect that some degree of control or expectations will be imposed by the giver. It is difficult to remember our parents warning about free lunch, when reaching for a handout. Mankind is generlly greedy. It is no accident that greed is one of the seven deadly sins.

The East Germans loved the Trabant! They stood in line several years just to buy one. Compared to walking, it was a big step up.

From the Wikipedia: "The Trabant is an automobile produced by former East German auto maker VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau in Zwickau, Sachsen-Anhalt. It was the most common vehicle in East Germany, and was also exported to countries both inside and outside the communist bloc. The main selling points were that it had room for four adults and luggage, and was compact, light and durable. Despite its poor performance and smoky two-stroke engine, the car has come to be regarded with affection as a symbol of the more positive sides of former East Germany and of the fall of communism (in former West Germany, as many East Germans streamed into West Berlin and West Germany in their Trabants after the opening of the Berlin Wall in 1989). For advocates of capitalism it is often cited as an example of the disadvantages of centralized planning. It was in production without any significant change for nearly 30 years.

I also read somewhere that the plant site where the Trabant was made is now a toxic waste dump.

I just can't wait to see my electric bill when we go to a carbon tax economy.

Agree, this is a very, very slippery slope. Socialism is well on its way to affect our daily lives. It's taught in schools and Obama plus members in Congress such as Peloci are greasing the slide. The long term affect of what these socialists feel is the cure will cost us in ways we haven't seen before plus future generations. Obama knows what we're doing now will be almost impossible to reverse. It's sad to see America go in this direction while many in the European socialist countries are warning us. BT-100dc

Some years ago, the IRS took over the Mustang Ranch, a house of "ill repute" in Nevada. The government ran the place in an effort to recover the unpaid taxes. The result was that they LOST money! They couldb't peddle sex and booze at a profit but they think they can run the banks, the auto companies and anything else which represents a "systemic danger" to the economy.

Get ready folks. Their behavior meets all the definitions of a fascist state. Some will say "socialist" but the terms are not necessarily contradictory. There have been National Socialist who were fascists - notably the Nazis.

You all seem to think forcing obvious incompetents and greedy failures out the door is bad thing. I'm thinking its a pretty interesting concept. I fact, I'm thinking it SHOULD be repeated soon and often.

Picture an oval office meeting. The conversation goes something like this, "Obambi, you're a total incompetetent. Your priorities are wrong and your policies counter productive. You p!ss money away a trillion bucks at a crack and there's no end in sight. The government aint getting another single dime of tax revenue til you resign.

Be gone... and on your way out, have my secretary send in Harry, Nancy, Barney, and Dodd."

Note that the last paragraph in the cited article states in part about Rick Wagoner:

"He is considered responsible for increasing GM's focus on trucks and SUVsā€”at the expense of the hybrids and fuel efficient cars that have become more popular in the last couple of years."

It is apparent that Wagoner has gored Obama's ox even though at the time these decisions were made trucks and SUVs were the big sellers and are no doubt outselling the hybrids and fuel efficient small cars now that fuel prices are down.

Too bad Wagoner didn't send Obama a letter back explaining why Obama should resign. Obama has certainly made a lot worse decisions on a larger scale that will haunt this country for years to come.

Birdogs: At leased the customer who got screwed at the Mustang Ranch probably enjoyed it. You're right, the government couldn't run it as they are not business trained, nor educated, nor have the street smarts. Now they're trying it on a much larger scale and the screwing we're getting now does not compare to the Mustang Ranch. BT-100dc

sissy: The market was not allowed to work. Government interposing itself in any market situation is a bad thing. I don't think any bailouts of any sort should have happened from Bear Stearns on.

Dverna is right, the BOD should can the guy for poor performance.

What we are experiencing here is Galloping Socialism, as opposed to Creeping Socialism which was a little easier to control.

Some thought comparing Obama to Chavez was an exaggeration. It wasn't. This guy wants to be king. Obama has proven how frail our freedom is in today's America. He will take them away one by one. Our freedom is for sale and Obama is buying it, WITH OUR MONEY.

What an interesting question. And... assuming Obambi's meddling doesn't include 'firing' disfunctional UAW leadership, I'd be interested in hearing his explanation for why not...

    And one more thought.

Obama makes this move to oust Wagoner but does squat about the boys at AIG (et al) who received much more of our money. Will these same politicians decide which heads should roll on Wall Street, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac?

Used to be the libs were upset about the President saying "nuk-you-ler". Now we have a clown that talks about our troops fighting the "tolley-bon" in "pocky-stahn".

It'd be funny if it weren't so scary.

We are being run by an idiot that wants to be King. It is bad to be run by a King that is an idiot. Stupidity and arrogance are a bad combination. The idiots chose this King and now we are all going to fall.

There is no question that many top spots in corporations are filled by inept people. They make bad decisons that affect many others and need to be removed from the positions. The governement should not be involved as many of the people if not all currently in office are every bit as inept, should not have a say so in how a corporation is structerd and who holds the top post. Our governement should however be ready to attach assests of people that cheat and steal and cause a loss of jobs and money for others. Stock holders and board of directors are in place to monitor CEO's and upper management of private industry. Please name one person in congress, the senate or the whitehouse that has the background to make decisons concerning the way a company should be run and his squeaky clean???
