I maintain that until the Republicans ditch the Christian Conservative nonsense, we'll never win another election.

When I'm talking to my fellow Republicans, none of them ever mentions abortion, birth control, gay marriage, or marijuana.

The times have changed, if we don't we'll end up like the dinosaurs. They were unwilling to change too.

    What say you?

As long as Republicans listen to the Left tell them what is wrong with the Republican Party, the Republican Party will not win elections.

When they lobbied against the judges on the Iowa Supreme court who voted for gay marriage they got rid of three of them the first time around. This election there was only one up for retention and they couldn't get him voted out.

Like your saying, there's more tolerance out there now.

Another problem is people are looking at the tea party as a faction that will not compromise and is willing to take the country down to total chaos. That may sound like a good idea to some but in reality it probably would be the demise of the country.

Holy crap are you guys out of touch with reality.

We're screwed if we keep up the religious nonsense.

Religion has NO place in modern politics. If you think some big scary guy that lives in the sky controls your life, step way from the voting machine.

ysr,,,,,,why don't you just join the democrat party,,,,,they seem to be more with your views,,,,,,if we compromise our beliefs to win an election what does that say for us,,,,,,that we are just believing a certain way until we can be swayed to another,,,,,,,doesn't say much for CONVICTIONS now does it.....what most don't understand is just because we move to the left,,,,,,DOES NOT MEAN THOSE ALREADY ON THE LEFT WILL VOTE FOR YOU,,,,,,,JUST THAT YOU WILL BE "COMPROMISING" TO GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT......

    C O N T R O L,,,,,is all they are after.....

Don't you remember how much hell was raised at the Democrat convention by the Democrats when they dropped God from their platform and Obama swooped down and saved the day by putting God back in?

It has nothing to do with God and if we did get rid of God you would destroy the party after half the people leave it.

The thing people are having a hard time understanding is every time we take advice from the Democrat Party on how to fix the Republican Party, we lose.

We don't have to announce giving up our values. The only thing we need to do is protect the Constitution and run on a the growth and prosperity for all people to enjoy and promise them equal application of the law.

As much hated as the Tea Party is, what is the mission statement, they don't talk about God, abortion or anything else. The promote observance of the Constitution and a responsible fiscal policy and they drew Republicans, Democrats and Independents into their fold.

Romney lost not because he spoke about God, but because he did not call the Democrats out on the lies they conjured up about the Romney and the Republican Party, like the war against women crap.

Tells me the Republicans STILL MATTER in what they believe and stand for!!

And tell me that their are a lot of mis-informed, indoctrinated, closed minded folks on the other side. Who want others to compromise with THEM!

    GO Third Party!!

When a skank is given a choice between free rubbers and morality, which one will she choose? Our problems aren't in our conservatism. We got beat by a glib tongued mulatto imcumbant who hooked just the right number of suckers to get himself elected. Don't overthink this thing. He won because he ran a far better campaign than we did...it's just that easy.

Ask yourself this simple question: if Rubio had been the Veep choice, would we have lost Florida? Or Nevada? Or Virginia? Or or or or or or or OHIO?

Romney and Ryan didn't give us Wisconsin or Michigan. Why not?

This ain't about abortion, or gay marraige, or birth control, or dope. It's about having a really good horse in your stable. When we get a couple of good horses, we'll smoke them commies.

Brad, what difference does it make if the republicans win elections if the people themselves aren't on board? The electorate already has the dems for leftist Godless bullspit. If the republicans don't have something to offer the people other than democrat light they don't deserve to win elections. The left endlessly prosylitises for what is nothing less than a religion based on denying God. When is the last time you saw the GOP attempting to persuade the people that the godless left is not the path that leads to greatness? The GOP doesn't win because they aren't offering anything the dems aren't already offering better, and until they do they, and we, are screwed. Yes I'm a dinosaur, but America did OK when it was filled with dinosaurs.

The only thing we need to do for the next two years is step back, out of the way and let Obama have his way without out help.

The house should continue to pass it's bills and pass them on the Senate where they will die.

In the meantime, as new regulations are passed, taxes, fuel, food and unemployment rises ever upward and 401's values and health services decline, in another two years when people are complaining, we can point to the root cause as Obama's policies.

The Democrats will commit suicide as long as we don't step in and save them like we have before.

Hell, let them raise taxes on millionaires. It won't fix anything. Then what will be their next excuse?

Don't know about them but I won't Republican if the Republican Party become The Democrat Party II

    What would be the point?

We don't need to abandon principles, just don't push them to the forefront.

Take abortion for example. It is legal. We cannot change it with a law, that is the way Democrats think, changing behavior through legislation. You have to change the heart before you can change the mind.

    .

    As someone once said...

When you promise to rob Peter to pay Paul, you can count on Paul's vote.

    Obama got Paul's vote.

I do think there will need to be less emphasis on it going forward. America is getting more socially liberal, and most of these social issues are things that aren't even decided by Congress, anyway.

The social issues definitely served a role in the GOP, but the emphasis needs to ramp back down to a more historically-normal level.

This is not to denigrate social conservatives, however. I know many of these folks who are of very modest means, yet continue to vote Republican. Frankly, they're at an income level who would probably benefit from Democrat policies, but it's not the kind of people they are. (Many older posters on this site probably benefit from Democrat policies, but will never admit it because they're such strong social conservatives). Social issues kept them voting conservative for 20 years beyond when it was in their economic interest to do so. America could have become socialist a long time ago if it weren't for these people. So I don't wish to disparage them in any way. It has been a very important bloc that has helped win elections...I just think its usefulness as an electoral strategy may have run its course, that's all.

What's moral about crushing the skulls of third trimester fetuses?

    Why have blood alcohol tests?

    Why have seat belts?

    Why use condoms?

    Why have any standards?
