    By Bill O'Reilly

According to a new poll from The Hill newspaper, 69 percent of Americans believe the nation is in decline, and an astounding 83 percent are now worried about the country's future. The decline number includes 47 percent of Democrats, which is especially bad news for Barack Obama.

"Talking Points" believes the folks are right again. We are in decline. But why?

The answer is the decline in self-reliance. If you understand history, you know that America was founded on the independent principles of honor and hard work. After we achieved independence from England, the federal and state governments basically stepped aside allowing businesses and communities to grow without much interference. If you failed, there was no safety net. You were on your own. And so the folks became strong out of self-preservation.

The foundation of America's growing power was a code of conduct based on honest labor and neighborly charity. We looked out for each other, but did not tolerate cowardice or narcissism. Judeo-Christian philosophy dominated the public square.

The Germans and Japanese tested America in the 1940s and found out exactly what our fathers and grandfathers were made of. That war united the country and brought us a common purpose.

But in the late 1960s, the winds of change swept in. The Vietnam War divided us and led to a suspicion of authority and purpose. No longer was America seen as a noble nation by many of its own citizens. The war brought enormous change. Out went the baby with the bathwater, in came drugs, free love and doing your own thing no matter what the social consequence.

Since then, America has evolved into a country of two minds. Self-reliance remains the key to economic success, but for those who don't want to compete in the marketplace, or simply can't, the federal government has become their lifeblood. The collapse of the family has led to massive entitlement spending on children and single mothers. In addition, the liberal belief that the feds have a moral obligation to provide for the have-nots has led to massive debt. That, in turn, has weakened our economy and robbed America of power, thus the decline.

President Obama and to lesser extents Presidents Bush and Clinton before him believed in imposing social and worldwide justice using the U.S. Treasury. But the American worker cannot keep up with the tax burden that imposes, so now we're in trouble.

The USA needs a philosophy overhaul. We have to get back to self-reliance and away from the nanny state. We can't remain dominant in the world unless we do that.

Imposing discipline on the federal government will be difficult, and many liberal Americans will scream all day long. But if it is not done, our decline will become permanent.

bd, square on point. The Great Social Experiment of the 60's, among other things, removed the father figure as authority in many young male's lives.

Single parent families created a situation where young males learned about life and ethics from their pals on the street corner.

The results were a boom in the prison industry, and a great expansion of the welfare system.

Removal of the draft further lessened exposure to honor and fidelity.

To view the results tune in to the nightly "occupy Wall Street" segment on the lame Stream Media nightly.

The good thing is most of the trash will not survive the SHTF.

Bill's statement rings true, especially Viet Nam dividing the Nation. So who ended up correctly calling Nam a BIG mistake? +1 for the protesters.

FAUX News is talkin overtime for us to think its a good idea to bomb Iran. In 1965 they would have been talking "bomb Viet Nam". Gulf of Tonkin-fake. Iraq/WMD-FAKE.

John Bolton and Charles Krauthammer Have a conflict of interest but some people have not figured that out (yet). Bill O Reilly was a history teacher. He should see this one coming.

We should bomb Iran. Because if unchecked Iran is going to build atomic weapons, which they will use on Israel. Who in turn will vaporize Tehran and anyone else they think was in on this. At that point it's going to get pretty hairy seeing who is going to back who. Hopefully it won't result in nuclear dominoes.

Some day someone will look back on this (if anyone is left) and say, "Gee, if only we had stopped Iran in the first place."

Brian is looking at the back side of this particular Coin. And a long time ago, someone did try to stop it from ever flipping.

Tinman88 ought to be 86'ed for siding with the protesters instead of the Media when it comes to demonstrating against our Govt's policies. Good Republican president would have already gone Kent State on the Flea Party.

And O'Really is a putz. Shows you the Key (self-reliance) and then blathers that everyone is worried about the country's future as a result of basically, "Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll". What he means is that Losers are worried about Their future as they watch the Economy shift their lifestyles. Meanwhile, most of the rest of us are scared $h!+less because a Christian God is running our nation's politics of Charity 4 All in spite of the fact that Allah sez kill all God's believers.

But enough of my sarcasm, it's almost time for everyone to Prey.

Lots of good points above. The Feminist movement has a lot of blame in this. A generation of women simply refused to work together with their husbands, CHOSING to drive male influence out of the home, even if the men were not driven out physically. These women CHOSE to raise a generation of males who have no identity, no charactor, no backbone and no sense of responsiblity. If these emasculated males dare stick their heads up out of the sand, there is a host of feminist militants to beat him down, completely supported by the legal system. The divorce industry is VERY financially rewarding to the lawyers, even if it is tearing the country apart.

The biggest losers in the whole thing are the women, who used to have a protected purpose and place. Now they have forfeited protection and provision from the men, have almost all the responsiblity of the house and children, AND in most cases have to compete in the job market too. Those who cannot compete become wards of the state, living in bad conditions, and by example teaching their offspring to live the same meaningless life. I'll be Gloria Steinem is proud!

Too many wannabees and not enough worker bees. Two of the biggest reasons unemployment is so high: Lack of qualified, skilled people, and 99 weeks of unemployment bennies.

Our education system has let us down, and our work ethic and morals are slipping big time. 1/2 the people that try to fill out resumes at our office can't spell correctly.

As I've posted before, as it stands now the Baby Boomer generation -- MY generation, by the way -- will likely be looked back on as the worst generation in the history of America. We've basically ruined the greatest country that ever existed. Let's HONESTLY compare oursleves to 'The Greatest Generation" of our parents...

Our parents personally stopped the Axis Alliance from taking over the world. We Baby Boomers can't stop a Socialist "Community Organizer" from taking over America.

Our parents took America from being a second-rate economy to being the most dominant in history. We Baby Boomers took it back to the brink of collapse.

Our parents invented computers, developed weapons and technology to protect America, and put men on the moon. We Baby Boomers invented mass obesity and the Internet -- a really cool way for other countries to catch up with us, and to get porn without having to go rent a dirty movie.

Our parents invented desperately needed medicines and vaccines to cure and prevent horrific diseases. We Baby Boomers invented crack cocaine and made showing up at work high socially acceptable.

Our parents took a hand saw, a hammer and a plaster trowel and built houses that will last a hundred years. We Baby Boomers took air-nailers, power saws and Sheetrock and handed them to a Mexican who will build us a $300K house with a roof made of 7/16" oriented strandboard. That house will likely collapse before anyone but the bank ever really owns it.

Our parents defeated the Soviet Union -- arguably the most mighty industrial-military power of the mid-20th century -- without firing a shot. We Baby Boomers took 10 years and basically bankrupted the country killing Osama Bin Laden.

Our parents used Unions to make America strong. We Baby Boomers used Unions to protect the lazy and unqualified and make America weak again.

Our parents stood for self-reliance and acceptance of personal responsibility, rarely asking anyone else for anything. We Baby Boomers stand for the right to have cable TV and make more babies while being on welfare. And we, or at least the kids we raised, ask everybody for everything. If we trip over our shoelaces and break an arm, we sue Nike. 30 year-olds live with their parents and neither the kids nor the parents are even embarrassed to admit it.

Our parents built a culture in which you could live in a middle-class neighborhood and never lock your door. We Baby Boomers built a culture where, even if you live in an upscale subdivision, you need an electronic security system and a gun.

So let's face the sad truth, my Baby Boomer friends -- we have taken all the prosperity our parents handed us on a silver platter and squandered it like a rich man's drunken kid pissing away his inheritance. In a few decades the term "Baby Boomer" could be like the surname Hitler. Kids will argue in school and deny that their grandparents were part of the generation that ruined the greatest country that ever existed.

We Baby Boomers need to come up with a Hail Mary pass to somehow reverse, or at least stop, the cultural destruction our generation has wreaked on America. And the first step is to deconstruct the giant tumor of a federal government we invented and force the slothful half of the population get off their asses and work fof a living.

CNsane, so you side with the govt. that gw22 says is the problem? Who grants you "executioner status" on United States citizens. Kent St., Really?

And about that last paragraph- you really gotta lay off the coffee...

GW, if govt. brought us Viet Nam and the protesters were against both, was that a bad thing?

Brian, Are we the "good bombers"? Or just the first bombers. Who grants us "bomber status"? You have any teen age children you want to send to the sandbox?

ROSS, most of what GW said was his opinion. much of it I do agree with- in principal. So what grants your position as arbiter of silly (stupid) replies? Is it only good if YOU say it is? I will assume that is a fact as well. Next time I will ask your permission to post.

tinman, your pink liberal panties are showing.

Did you stand with Hanoi Jane, manning a Charlie AA gun? And John Kerry, throwing his medals (unearned, but that's another story) at the White House?

FYI we have some very good bombs. We can probably plant one right on Ahkminejad's toilet. We did it to Khadaffy Duck, right in the window and he was very damn careful the next 15 years.

Iran's surgery only needs removal of the madman and the aya freakin tolla.

The population is with us, wants western lifestyles and posessions.

Forbidden of cours by the mullahs.

They should be offed just for how they treat women.

You want to be careful about a people whose religion commands killing all Westerners. There are people leaving Islam in droves, more than are being converted. Islam is BS and should be stomped out. Anyone who has studied the subject should agree.
