Well, this is certainly going to be interesting.

I really don't know if there are enough facts presented for anyone to give a course of action that I would rely on or take as council.

Who is doing the polluting? Is it a gun club? Is the club threatening a member with a "black listing" or expulsion? Who is certifying that a "gross" pollution is taking place? Are they qualified to make such an assessment?

There are a lot of whats and who's that have to be taken into account before any meaningful responses appear. Until then, any reply (imho) is just a shot from the hip, hypothetically of course.

Threats are being made by BOD members. Pollution is obvious to the naked eye.

    Define pollution.

Metallic lead pellets on the ground do not necessarily constitute pollution.

I think docbombay is correct not nearly enough facts.

Woody, if you can still look the guy in the mirror in the eye no problem. If you can't then it is time to do what you think needs doing to make it right.

    Good luck

What about pellets on a field where migratory birds feed and pellets that fall into streams.

    Again, strictly hypothetical

Has anyone tested the water in the stream for lead?

Is the place designated a wetland?

    39-14-112. Extortion.

    (a) A person commits extortion who uses coercion upon another person with the intent to:

    (1) Obtain property, services, any advantage or immunity; or

    (2) Restrict unlawfully another's freedom of action.

    (b) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution for extortion that the person reasonably claimed:

    (1) Appropriate restitution or appropriate indemnification for harm done; or

    (2) Appropriate compensation for property or lawful services.

    (c) Extortion is a Class D felony.

In Tenn, the person(s) threatening you would have committed a felony. Check your state laws.

Personally, I am not too concerned about pellets on the ground. A lead management program is easy and inexpensive. The club should take ground samples to their local AG dept and they will tell them what they need to do.

Remove the word lead and substitute any other heavy metal. Then ask yourself the same question.

Too Big of a hypothetical question!!

    Narrow it down.

The "lead" issue is no different then the Climate change one. Its run and perpetrated by FEDERAL agency's and employee of said agency's.

Based on PAST infants eating lead paint, PBS house remodeling shows, Nutty Professors in just about every college/university's. Do you see or notice a trend here?????????? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

If lead was such a "evil" why is the Feds so heavy into the Chev Volt who'es battery is more of a Toxic Waste the any oz or TON of lead shot or bullet??

Ask questions, don't follow the "crowd"!!

"REMEMBER THIS IS A HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION. Woody" Unless you define the situation you will not get a definitive answer.

From a moral standpoint, If I had knowledge that a crime was being committed and did nothing, that would make me an accomplice. They could black list me to hell in that case.

"Pollution is obvious to the naked eye." If you are observing lead spread over the grounds, that would describe any shooting facility and you need to get a life, perhaps golf would be a better game.

That is why we have LEAD RECLAIMERS in business, there is money on that ground for the club to retrieve.

If you are refering to LEAD.

Now if you are trying to shut down a club GO SOMEWHERE ELSE< TRY AFRICA.

My last dealing with a DEP water quality specialist and lead shot falling into a nearby stream yielded the following response. "lead is pervasive throughout the environment and not necessarily a contaminent that can be traced". My response was, "we make every effort to reduce the amount of lead shot falling into the stream but obviously not every pellet can be controlled". He said "thank you" and left.

The visit was the result of a member complaint!!

On key factor I am told is the acidity of the soil.

If the soil is not acidic, or if the soil's acid level has been mitigated by the application of lime, lead will not leach into ground water.

Our clubs are fortunate to have a sportsman who also is an environmental engineer. He has done test samples of various locations regarding soil p.h.

My limited understanding is it's primarily about the soil acidity.

But, for the sake of 'hypothetical', as dawg said, substitute chromium, or some other metal and ask yourself what would you do..

Recon; Our club was shut down for lead and tested by dep.We fought them and with another co had it tested and found they were trying to shut us down to get the club and land.AFTER AN independet co tested our ground we were told that it was all contained right there and would hurt nothing. We had a long hard fight and proofed it.Then dcnr got into it and we had to fight some more.We are open again but they still check us close and so far have found no problem.I guess it stays right there and is fine. You would think someone one would lose their job for all the trouble and cost and proof they must have lied or don't know what they are doing. But it is not over yet.I gues the state and gov. does not care if ther people know what they are doing or not. one bad test and heads should roll plus the people behind it should have been fired.Oh I forgot obama is in there so nobody cares what any of them do.

It doesn't even have to be over a failed test. We have a lousy Gov. here that has banned lead wheel weights over fear a animal might ingest it and kill a endangered species !!!

It doesn't matter what facts are out there, the "government" wants lead banned as a "back door" gun control effort! Why else would you find only the Democrats and greenie's in the rants to ban lead.

Your in for a battle ANY TIME you go up against the Feds and their ideology's, and THEY pick the issue.

Ever been in a water fight over watering your crops in order to save a "endangered" fish, that isn't endangered??

Ever educated your self now that "time" has pasted and the REAL truth came out about the Spotted Owl???? Have the Feds changed any thing? NO! Has logging come back? NO!

Why do you think most Politicians are Lawyers!!! They have created the system and all its problems!!

How does it feel now, knowing we have LOST so much of the FREEDOM's our Founder gave us!

BigM, the government took away our liberty of driving around without a seatbelt, or else pay a fine. Just for starters,
