Due to the high shot prices, I would like to go to a 1 ounce reload. I am using Red Dot powder, winchester primers, and AA cases. My current reload is 19 to 19.5 grains of Red Dot, winchester primers, AA cases, and AA12 wads. I don't know the speed of this load, but would like a load similar to it. Any recipes would be appreciated. The loads will be shot out of a Winchester model 12 trap w/ full choke. Thank you

870smokim's rec is pretty sound ; when I went to 1 oz the recipe I used was what your 1 1/8 oz is 'cept fot the shot and wad -- but that wad will work with a bit of tweaking on the crimp .

But , why stop at 1 oz ? 7/8ths oz will work with a wad change and yadayadayada .

Duckhunter, assuming the load data you gave was for a 1 1/8oz loads you wanted a 1oz equivalent to, I'd say you are running waaaay too much pressure.

Geez, the Alliant website lists an AA hull with W209 primer, 18gr Red Dot and a WAA12 wad with 1 1/8oz shot at 1200fps @ 10,400PSI. That's already higher than I consider practical, and you're adding a grain or 1 1/2 more. I'd go to Green Dot for 1 1/8oz loads that fast.

use 17 gr. of red dot in your ww hulls w/win primers along with the 1 oz. jammer wads from downrange mfg. the recoil is practically nothing and the payload is travelling at 1213 fps. these are the slickest, cleanest wads you can buy. they pattern great and are extremely easy to seatwhen reloading. try 'em you'll like 'em.

18.0 gr PROMO or Red Dot (same burning rate, but PROMO is cheaper), Green Duster wad, 1 oz in an AA case, W209 primer. 1200 fps.

STS hull, W209 primer, 18.4 gr 700X, WAA12 wad and 1-1/16th ounce of #8. Great handicap load. I stick with the cheap Federal 1oz #8 loads for the 16, haven't found anything as good yet.

I use a Mec 9000 G reloader. I believe the bushing is number 34. I can't remeber what the grains of powder it should be. I can't find my bushing chart. The loading book we have is a little outdated. If anybody how much powder it is supposed to be dropping. I could have been wrong about how much powder I use. I thought that was right. I could be wrong though.

    Thanks for the info.

17.2 grs. of Red Dot.Promo is cheaper and you can use the red Dot receipe however, you will need to drop down a bushing or so to get the same powder weight) Always use a scale to check the weights on your drop. I use 1 oz. of hard 8s and a CB1100 wad.(have also used the Down Rangw XL-1) Smokes up good.

If you don't know what your bushings are throwing you REALLY need to make the small investment in a scale. Not all bushing are equal and don't believe what the charts tell you.

You have a responsibility to those around you, not to mention yourself, to know what your actual loads are.

Now as to a 1Oz load I like 16.5 grains of Clays or ClayDot in a Remington hull, Winchester primers, and Green Duster wads.

    Smash Em,

    Jerry

I've had good luck using 17gr. Claydot, Downrange Jammer XL1 wad, Fiocchi 616 primers, 8 1/2" STS Magnum shot in either AA, STS, or Gun Club hulls. I get around 1200 fps through the cono. This load also works good for me back at the 25 yds. line.

18 grs. Red Dot in new AA with the same wad you have been using and 1oz. shot.Loads nicely in the new AA hull with no creasing, patterns well and soft shooting.

these wads can be used in any recipe that calls for a WAA12SL so says the Hodgdon loading manual.

Red Dot or Promo 17.5 to 18.5 grains. Win 209 primer, CB1100-12 or WAA12SL wads, AA hulls. 1175 to 1235 fps. Might be a tad faster in warmer weather. Double check the loads against published data. 19.7 Green Dot with the same components at 1215-1220 fps. 18.2 grs Clays with the same loads gives about 1200 fps. Greenduster wads appeared to raise pressures significantly, so I never tried them in these loads, except with the 19.7 grs. Green Dot powder, where they worked well.
