I'm afraid you'll see a majority of the large remaining industries exit America.

Consumption taxes are regressive. This is a poor country and getting poorer. 400 people own half the wealth in the country. That leaves 50% of the wealth for 99.999999 of the population. Really, 90% of the people have under 5% of the wealth. The poor necessarily spend all their money on consumption. No way this country approves a tax on consumption when that scheme will just be seen as a way for the rich to shift their tax burden to the poor.

    P.S. Wrong category.

Kinda sounds like a way for the 47% of our residents that pay ZERO income taxes to help foot the bill.

A huge number of that 47% who pay no income taxes, per se, pay a higher percentage of tax on their income than the wealthy.

And do we really need to be hounding the person making $28K for more taxes?

A consumption tax is fine with me but not with an income tax as well. A consumption tax gets all the people who run under radar now, like drug dealers, illegals, and tax cheats like Geitner (sp). It would eliminate all federal taxes to individuals and business. No more filing income taxes on 4/15, no more IRS as it currently exists. If you can't afford to buy the product plus the tax you just pass like you do now. You need to take money from your 401k or IRA go ahead no tax until you spend the money. What could be easier or more fair than that? Oh, I almost forgot, everyone gets a check from the government every month to pay for the adjusted cost of the essentials like food and clothing. Just sayin. JRM

9% for the folks making under $250K...50% for those over $250K....

There, that ought to fix us up and make the socialist happy that successful people are the real problem...right Indy???
