This probably is elementary for the sages here but this newbie trapper is wondering about the barrels on high end guns like the K-80 and Kolars.
Q: Why are the barrels split like that? in other words why no center rib? Is there an advantage? I would think that structurally it is compromising.

    Thanks for any input.

Coop, the bottom barrel is adjustable for POI (changing the barrel hanger) only possible with free floating barrels. they also cool easier and faster. and then there is the matter of weight and lighter is always better. the side ribs serve no purpose structurally and best of all they look cool. Welcome aboard Coop. this is an addiction for which I don't have any interest in a 12 step program. keep in mind that liquor was made to sell not drink as well.
