I bought a 28" mod barrel off of gunbroker for an older 870 for my dad. When we got looking at it I noticed two holes like gas ports in an 1100 barrel. Any idea why those would be there? And how should I plug them? I'm sure it's not a competition barrel because it doesn't have the second bracket. Help me out on this one.

Model 58 barrel, or 870 barrel converted for 58 use. This is also a Remington gun, but an autoloader.

870 barrels work on moedl 58 gas guns when the ports are drilled. they can be drilled and tapped , then fitted with allen screws . Jeff

870/58 barrels are identical. I have all of mine drilled for interchangeability..and as mentioned above, tapped and with set screws so the gas ports can be closed. Some folks go ahead and shoot them without plugging the holes but I think that is asking for trouble

I think I used the tap drill for an 8-32 screw and then tapped the same...
