How far back have you used 1q oz of 81/2 with good results? If so what was your load data?

Phil in nice weather like now I have used them to the 22 yard line. Rem hull, 17 grains of clays, w/ claybuster 1100 wad, and win. primer-1180 fps load at 8,200 LUP pressure. Very nice (light) recoil and still crushs targets past the 21 yard line. Break-em all. Jeff

I stop at the 16 yd line. I use STS/AA hull,16.2 Clays,Rem TGT 1 oz wad. & Rem/Win primer to match the hull. Have chrono'd thes at about 1150+ fps. TM1 Wilkinson bbl. I have and others have smashed birds with 3/4 oz # 9 from 27 yds with this bbl. All AA componants,Gray wad with filler card,15.2 Red Dot. Chrono'd 1200 fps. Surely not a load for the GAH but it worked.

I gave Marty Hill a box of My 18.5 gr Red Dot with 1 oz of 8 1/2's in STS hulls with Win AA-Sl wads to try. I watched him ink ball all but one from the 27 yesterday, he knocked the nose off the only one not ink balled. But Phil, you know how fast Marty shoots, they don't get far from the house. J.W.

I never ran my first 100 straight till I began using 8 1/2's and 9's. I only used the 9's at 16yd only but sometimes used the 8 1/2's back to 27 to play but they really showed pretty bad results past 20 and I am a fairly quick shooter.

I have preferred 8 1/2 shot since it first showed up in the early '70s. Recently, I have had some problems with it and I think I know why. I measured the shot in my current bag of Lawrence Brand and it comes out to .073 inch average over 30 BBs. That is closer to #10. This is the first time I have seen such a wide disparity in a quality line of shot. I guess it pays to check anyway. Ron
