With all this talk of shooting light loads. I thank that the ATA should have a side event at the grand this year where you MUST shoot only 7/8 of an oz. from the 16 yard line. Then have a event where you shoot 1 oz. from the 16 yard line. Also a Handicap event where you MUST shoot 1 oz. and other event where you must shoot 7/8 oz. All the big boys will be there what better time to get some info. on how a light load would work. Then the ATA would be able too make a call on if we should switch too a lighter load down the road. What do you think.

Rio ... if it were to happen it would be a much farer evaluation if those shooters were given 4 boxes of shells marked A B C & D with each box being a different unmarked load and tally the evaluations from that but ...

Overall its a nice dream but in reality the ATA will most likely never change anything and really they dont need to change anything at all. It is not the load or the gun but it is the shooter that breaks the targets. If the shooter knows what they are doing and knows his load and his gun he will break targets. It doesn't matter if the gun is a 28" full choked Remington 870 or a $20,000 custom made gun. It doesn't matter if they are off the shelf Remington STS or Winchester AA vs. reloads but what does matter is the shooter ... if the shooter does what they are supposed to do the targets will break no matter what gun they are shooting and what shells/loads they are using.

IMHO it is 99.9% shooter and .1% luck.

Well, down to a point, of course. (you won't break many targets with 1/2oz loads)

Why not just make it a 20ga event? The factories make nice 7/8 and 1 ounce target loads for the 20....... Probably be just as successful.

    Why not have a 4-gun event, 12, 20, 28, and .410.... Just think you could shoot 400 16's and 400 caps in one day....Grubby
