Come on, you know you all love this!

For what it is worth I would like it, but who is going to police it? The stake commando's?

CM, policing the sports rules haven't been too high on the priority list for a long time, what makes you think we would begin now?

I've heard people complain that radar guns are inconsistent/inaccurate depending on the brand and how often they're calibrated. I'm not looking to start something, just wondering what the shooting world thinks.

    Cheers

I think all clubs should be mandated to have a good, accurate radar gun, because a lot of clubs (like ours here along the gulf coast) shoot in constant wind, and the 50-yard stake is basically worthless. Never is there many "still air" days to set the target to the stake, but set the targets with a good radar gun, and you are "good-to-go" !!! That, and a good proper height t-post and people will enjoy the targets you throw. Mike* (MH*)

Mike : If your machine is throwing a bird into even a 15 MPH head wind and your gun says it is "determined to be the speed as rules stated" How far is that bird going to land?

Who cares how far it will land? It's not being thrown "in still air".

Exactly : Mike seemed to think the radar gun will even out the variables in how far and how fast the bird should be thrown. Maybe I am thinking backwards but the wind controls the flight and speed of the bird. So if your gun is taking a measurement ten feet out of the house what good is it when the wind affects it past that point?

Explain if I am not getting it?

    CM,

ATA rules, Section XIII, subsection E (flights and angles)

"...........Distance measurements are on level ground in still air........."

If the ground is not level and/or the air is not still, like Mike says "....the 50 yard stake is basically worthless".

I happen to like a stake at 52 yards or so out in front of a trap but not for seeing how far the clays travel! A six inch piece of ribbon thumbtacked to it tells me a lot more useful information that I care about! Yeah, I like the stakes!
