Just wondering how similar Winchester Super Target AA is to the old Winchester 452AA ? The loads I looked at were about the same. Never used much Winchester shotgun powder. Thanks, Roger

    I always thought that too.
Used to load some 452AA back in the 70's / 80's and Super Target kind of mimiked those loads.
Could Super Target just be renamed 452AA?
    It would not suprise me.

I think it was just a name-change as well. I used to use Winchester Ball powders many years ago, and the 473AA was basically the same as Super Field. Just got rid of the numbering, and stayed with either "Target" or "Field" loads. Fine ball powders made for a real mess !!!

Yes on a Mec loader beneath the powder bottle you better have your copper washer under the rubber one or it would get everywhere.

I'll never forget the time I loaded up some Peters Blue Magic hulls with 473 powder and tried to shoot when it was about 20 degrees below zero. That gave new meaning to the expression of Blooper.

Thanks guys, I'll still go by the loading manual but it does sound like maybe 452 was just renamed. How does 19.0 grs with 1 1/8 oz sound? That is a touch under the 19.5 recommended for 1145 fps. Roger

452, never duplicated, got me some of my best scores in Gold Medal hulls.

I tried to find a substitute, and until Titegroup came along never found one.

Mind you, they are not similar at all but I like the TG very much.

Winchester would still have me If they kept 452.

Wow, the next cleanest burning thing was charcoal, from what I remember. Especially, the Super Target. I think only half of it burned.

452AA was/is a small ball, WST is a flat flake. I used 452AA in my 45 for bullseye loads and it gave me the best group sizes of any powder, these results are from a Ransom rest. When WST came out I did extensive testing and sold off all my 452AA. 5.0 grains WST, Nosler 185 jacketed HP, winchester primer, 1.24 OAL is the most accurate 50 yd load I found. With lead wad I use 3.8 of WST and it is dirty but the 50 yd load is clean, higher the pressure the cleaner WST burns. Tom Ginovsky
