Does anyone have any experience reloading the 3" AA HS 410 hulls? I have found only a published load for 296 powder and 11/16 oz lead. This doesn't quite fill up the hull to a crimpable height. I have no wad pressure on the wad and it still sits too low. I have emailed Alliant to see if they have or intend to publish a 3" load. Any help or information would be appreciated.

    Thanks:

    Marcus

Hodgdon has recipes for 3/4 oz loads. They all use H110 or 296. see link. Mark

Thank you for your response. The 296 charge, wad and shot column are too low for a good crimp. It may take a different powder to give me more height to fill the casing.

Add a little shot to get proper crimp. The 3" 410 is routinely loaded to 13K+ PSI.

I have gone to Alliant 300MP exclusively, now am shooting up Accurate #9 and 296 in the 44 Mag pistol.

    Shooting Coach:

Thank you for your input. I have ordered some 300 mp. I typically use Alliant 410. What is the powder charge with 300 mp for the 3" 11/16 oz load?

I've just finished loading a couple of flats of 3" .410's with Remington, Federal, AA, and AAHS hulls. The Remington and Federal loaded well with 3/4 ounce of shot with book loads of 296, but both, especially Federal, wanted to split the hull at the crimp. AA hulls would not take 3/4 ounce and I stuck with 11/16th. The AAHS with 296 would barely take 3/4 but were hard to get to crimp correctly, so I backed off to 11/16's and no problems. For the few(less than 10) 3/4 AAHS loads I did put up, I backed off a couple of grains on the amount of powder because I have yet to find a published load for these hulls with 3/4 ounce of shot. Even that powder reduction may not be enough to keep pressure under the maximum SAAMI limit.

Yes I have loaded some 3" HS hulls using 296 and HS wads. They came out just right using the data on the HS wad bag. Assuming you are using the HS wad, I would recheck the shot weight/vol. You should be getting something like 290-300 grains of shot.
