391 QUESTION

    The lock on the side of gun keeps locking while shooting . it does this about twice out of 25 rounds,any ideas? and yes normal line load.

    I would clean the gun thoroughly with Gun Scubber and then dis-assemble completely and go in with a tooth brush and work on the lock mechanism with GFS or some other heavy duty cleaner. I would suspect you have either something really gumming up the works just inside the locking tab. I have never seen a lock break, but have had a #9 pellet do all sorts of weird things in the action.

    After several thousand rounds some of the 391's do that and they need the spring replaced that is under the latch. No big deal to replace and the spring can be purchased from Brownells.

    Are you sure you are not pushing in the latch on the left side of the receiver with your finger. I'll bet you are.

    Odd...is the spring missing?
    Typically, 391's require a pretty firm push to depress the latch.

    Grizz, the early 391's, the recoil of the first shot would release the magazine cutoff, preventing the 2nd shell from loading...
