What are some of your favorite 27 yd reloading recipies? Am planning on using STS hulls & 1.25 oz. of 7.5 shot.

I realize that I will have to pattern my gun, just looking for a recommended starting point.

Reloading is much different now than 25 yrs. ago when component selection was much more limited.

    Thanks,
    REDD

Hopefully you did a typo on the amount of shot. 1.125 oz of shot, not 1.25.

You are correct on the typo. I should have written it as 1 1/8 oz.

    Kriegart,

You and I shoot about the same load. Either are bushings are different or your scales are broken. My #19 drops between 18.0 and 18.2 grains and my #20 drops 19.0 grains on the nose.

    Very soft shooting fast though!

Pappa Smurf- How many grains of (Clays?) International powder does the MEC 31 bushing drop? Also, the orange WW wad is known to have problems at cold temperatures. It does work well when it is warm. The Winchester primer is tapered to fit into the AA hull. Remington primers have a straight wall. Because of this shape difference, I do not interchange them.

REDD04- It has been demonstrated many times that Green Dot will pattern just a bit tighter than other powders and from the 27, the slightly tighter pattern is helpful. Check a good reloading manual or the Alliant web site.

20 gr of WST in an AA hull using an Downrange AA12 wad with 1 1/8 of 7.5 smokes the targets from 27.

I have also started loading WSH and like 20.3 gr in either STS or AA hulls with the same wad and shot as above. This load also shoots very well.

Pat - My #31 bushing - in my MEC 9000 - on my bench - will drop an average of 19.3 grs. of International. Where I am, temperature is not an issue for the orange wad.......I rarely use the WW 209 in STS hulls because they do not fit well.

I like the 18.5(or whatever a 19/20 bushing weighs) grains of Tightgroup. But,Mr. Ireland please tell us more about your Green Dot patterning? If your talking 1 1/4oz....try 27 or so grains of Longshot.

dkusner- The slightly tighter paterns from Green Dot shells have been discussed several times on this site. I remember one time Martin Wilbur (Pheasant-master, former Kansas Delegate and AA27AA shooter) presented some information and Neil W. (current ATA President) had some doubts. As is characteristic of Neil, he tested the ideas presented by Martin and confirmed in his tests that Green Dot loads gave him an average of 9 additional shot in the central core. My data comparing otherwise equivalent loads, suggest that Green Dot will put an additional 8-14 shot in the central core of a pattern. Some of the very best shells loaded by manufacturers specifically for handicap use Green Dot (OEM version) exclusively.
