What exactly would someone do with several hundred .22 caliber rimfire cartridges loaded with small shot? They're a mix of .22 shorts and LR. Some are labeled #12's and others #10.

Wouldn't these things make a mess in a rifled barrel?

They won't hurt it, but they are good for shooting at mice that have invaded a building, the shot is so small it won't do hardly any damage to anything else, but they do a job on the mice

I have a little single action that I use to do it, kinda fun when things are slow

A CCI .22 mag birdshot will kill pigeons from the ground in the top a barn from a single-six. With the CCI .22LR birdshot you have to be up in the mow to kill them.

Rifling opens up the groups quickly. But there are smoothbore .22's designed for birdshot. Remington a few years back made their pump .22 into a mini shotgun. I sure could have used it years ago to eliminate pests raiding the mushroom operation at my mother in law's barn.

I have a Remington pump with a smooth bore. I use Federal shot cartridges with #12 shot. The effective range on sparrows is 25 yards. It is effective on Carpenter Bees but you have to be quite a bit closer.

A Speer .38/.357 shotshell will kill a possum, dead, from a 4" GP-100 half way across a 2.5 car garage. It was also a Hell of a lot louder than I thought it would be too!

You can use them for shooting miniature trap, Grass hoppers or Ritz crackers.

If they are in boxes, they may have some marginal collector value. I you post pictures, someone might comment on value.

I have a Savage smooth bore that does a good job at 30 feet. The trouble with the CCI, they don't always open up. That makes them like a regular bullet.

They also work well on bats. I live in a very old "farmhouse" and on occasion a bat will get into the house. I usually kill them with a tennis racquet but sometimes they will go into a corner of two walls and the ceiling and I can't get them with a racquet. A .22 with small shot is just the ticket. I've had it while but CCI used to sell a box that had 12 shots in it. I have eight shots left and memories of four dead bats. Does minimal damage to the walls. My wife doesn't mind the damage... she is just glad that she can stop screaming about the bat in the house and that the bat is dead.

Anyone remember the Remington MOSkeetO. 22 smooth bore with a small target thrower and very fragile targets? Woops, I'm telling my age...

I looked and I have a nearly full box of Super X 22 Long Rifle with No. 12 shot. The box is marked with the price of $1.59.

I can't remember what I bought them for.

Oh, aren't Bats a protected species? Somehow I thought they were--or at least maybe in Missouri?

We used to shoot little clay targets with them at our boy scout camp. I earned a pro-marksman badge doing that. "Ace of the base"......."champ of the camp"
    Great fun at close range.
