A co-worker is purchasing his 16 year old son a .22 bolt action for his 16th birthday. He has $400.00 to spend for the iron sighted rifle and will purchase a scope for Christmas.

Please give me your recomendations to pass along. Thanks Richard

There are a lot of options

Marlins are really hard to beat- I am not sure they arent as accurate as any other production gun- 200 dollar or less range

    Regards from Iowa

CZ 22's are very popular. I have a 452 and I like the way it's made.

If you want to read up on 22's go to RimfireCentral.com, a wealth of info there.

Marlins are adequately accurate and could be considered the most bang for the buck.

I know you said bolt action but I have CZ'z, a Marlin, Mossbergs, and others and none even come close to my 22 Henry rifles. They are a real high quality firearm. The action is like a fine watch.

I love my old Kimber. And my 1970's vintage Browning BL-22 still gets the job done too.

The CZ is a nice gun but don't overlook the Ruger M77/22. This rifle shoots good and has the advantage of the dependable flush fitting 10 shot rotary magazine which are readily available at minimal cost. Comes with rings which mount directly to the receiver so when its time for scope mounting the gun is ready to go.

Look into a Savage. I have a heavy barrel mark II with a laminated stock that's a tack driver. I have a Leupold 4X Rimfire on it. Great set up!
