From the FTA, "Due to a lack of interest from the normal participating clubs in Florida, the 2014 Florida Chain Shoot will not be held." Looks like the end of an era.

Does this also mean ATA targets being thrown will take a nosedive?? If so Sporting Clays are looking better all the time...

    Arrggh...

Absolutely not ATA targets are actually cheaper than shooting as a non member in a lot of Fl.clubs.

I think the title of this post should read: Florida Chain Dead. I can't see it returning. Poor attendance is the primary reason. Many reasons for that. Big reason is cost of travel, just the reality of it. Jake

I think it is also because of the clubs that no longer participate. ie: Winterhaven, St Pete, Sarasota. Too Bad.

    BillJ,

Exactly. Part of the problem are the fees that the FTA charges the clubs for being part of the Florida chain.

    .

Can you shoot a Florida Chain by just staying at the Silver Dollar all winter and not traveling ?

    Hammer1,

You could shoot any part of the chain that you wanted to. In your case you would have shot the chain when it got to the Dollar. This is all a moot point now as the chain is no more.

The Florida Chain used to be protected shoots...only one club shooting that week...

When that changed due to many reasons, it was the beginning of the end...

    Lots of reasons!

We were lucky to have been shooting at that time!

Eric, I don't think the FTA has any fault in the demise of the Chain. I can speak for Jacksonville as I was one of the "workers" that conducted the shoot there. We did everything the shooters asked for and still they did not come, I offered free camping to a few and still they did not come. The last chain we conducted the club profit was dismal at best. That was it for me. Several of us from Jax volunteered at Flagler and Gator. Their attendance was not that great either. As Greta stated, the loss of protected dates was the beginning of the end.

Hammer, there were many who in the last few years shot only the SD and Robinson Ranch portions of the Fl chain. With the cost of travel who could blame them. I am sorry to see the chain go, my wife and I now concentrate on the FTA Quaterly shoots, clubs close to us and the state shoots of Fl,Ga,Sc,and Ala. The Grand is still our annual vacation, at least for now. Jake
