This was San Diegos first of the season Calif DFG Family and Youth Pheasant Hunts held at Rancho Jamul where we are asked to provide our trained gun dogs to make this program successful but where there is no longer any training land and the same DFG refuses to let us use this ground to train on. They gave us a big piece of land across the highway that is nothing but foxtails and rattlesnakes most of the year. These are planted birds.
Max handled for this family Saturday, Molly and Missy, each other's best friend, for this one hunter Sunday. Missy finds 'em and Molly retrieves 'em. That's me with the camera.

We were in Presho, SD last week and we knocked em dead.

Really good hunting despite bad weather.

I'll try to round up our group photo.

Our group was in Witten South Dakota last week and the birds were plentiful to say the least. Ten of us hunting everyday and the limits came quick!

Having zero artistic talent, my camera is my easel. I do have a talent for recognising a great photo when I see it, and knowing how to frame it with the lense.

Just returned from Miller SD.The hunting was great.Killed lots of wild birds even with all the corn and sunflowers standing.Farmers can not get into the fields because of all the rain.

Wireguy, I just got back to this thread. Holy cow man. You take really good pictures. I would love to see more.
Your ability to see, frame and collect the shot, even being able to do it in action like with the pheasant shots, is ...well...its great.
I really enjoy looking at them.

The little boy's grand dad gets credit for both of the bird in the air photos. As the dog handler I am in charge of the hunt. When it gets to shooting time my camera is down as you can see, and I'm watching the action to make sure everyone is handling their arms safely, and especially with respect to my dogs.

This is my favorite hunting photo of the season so far. Molly bringing in a dove. She is a retrieving machine.

Our group hunted pheasants last week near Draper, S.D. and all limited four days in a row. Very muddy, but lots of birds. Also a lot of unharvested crops.

What kinds of crops, and do you think they will get them in before winter sets in in earnest?

Just home from Parker South Dakota. The first day had the snow coming in horizontal, but sat/sun were too pretty to believe. HUnted in shirt and hat. Made the limit every day. Even when the snow/sleet was numbing my face on thursday. Can't wait to get back and do it again.
