WHAT IS THE BEST PRESSURES TO RELOAD 20 GAUGE SHELLS...FOR 12 i HAVE ALWAYS TRIED TO STAY WITH IN 8000-10000 PSI MOSTLY STAYING IN THE 9000 RANGE TO BE SAFE.

Like you, I tend to load my 12s a little light. But in the 20 ga., unless you load 3/4 oz, pressures are going to be pretty much at or near 10,000#. There's not nearly the latitude that you have when working with a 12 ga. Pick one and run with it. Personally, I like the ball powders for the uniform drops - a good thing in small gauges where there's not a lot of latitude.

For comparisons sake the 12 gauge SAAMI max pressure is limited to 11,500 PSI. In the 20 gauge, the SAAMI max pressure is 12,000 PSI.

most loads for the 20 will run 10,000 and up.

If you are shooting a tubeset it is recommended to keep the pressure down. 10,000psi or less. The chamber in 20 gauge tubesets are prone to cracking under higher pressure. It is also recommended not to type everything in CAPITAL LETTERS.

For loads I would be shooting larger quantities of, I'd stay under 10,500 PSI for the 20 ga and try for under 10,000 PSI if possible. Less pressure is usually less stress on the gun. Too low and consistency may suffer a bit. If the data is listed in LUPS, I'd be more conservative.

The Universal 7/8Lt loads from Hodgdon give 1150 fps and <10,000 PSI. Nice in tube sets.
