I'm watching 10NBC right now, no mention of dead shooter, last word that he was still at large.

UPDATE 10:40 One gunman located, no info on his status other than there is no "active shooter" situation.

My father actually grew up in that area and spent the summers as a kid on the beach and in the water and I think they were all lifeguards there also

Is this not a good area any longer? As in safe?

    Gene,
I live 1 minute from the shooting, the shots woke us up. This is a very nice area and a great place to live. When we woke up my wife asked what the shooting was there were 3 shots then a pause then 3 more shots then a pause. Then 12 shots, and a few more after that. We assumed they were duck hunters I do not hunt ducks so I thought the season was still open.
It was not until the Helicopters were buzzing around did I think there was a problem. That only happens when the Coast Guard is on a search and rescue.

I then switched on the news and saw the report. The off duty officer that was injured is a member of our hunting club.

Please send Prayers for all the familys involved.
    This is very sad.

The shooter was a nut case par excellence. In 1980, he killed his grandmother with a hammer. Served 18 years in prison, and was on parole until 2006. NOT a legal gun owner. Oh, and the house he burned down was the one that he killed his grandmother in, which appears to have been a family home since the early 1900s based on some limited research.

The shooter was a convicted Felon, he killed his grandmother with a ball peen hammer in 1980. He served his time in prison 17 years and he was on parole until 2006 and was now FREE!

He set up an ambush on the first responders to the scene.

The failure here is with the legal system, there is no way anyone who hits his grandmother 32 times with a ball peen hammer should EVER be free! There is NO FIX FOR THAT!

This is a classic example of why we should have the death penalty. This scum bag should have been dead in 1981!

More violent criminals and crazies let loose to prey on society, so why wasn't the SOB executed for murdering his grandmother in 1980?

Unfortunately, no death penalty in NY.

Seems to me this is more of a political (Being Politically Correct) problem rather than one of a gun problem? I wonder how the mainstream media will cover (read make up excuses)for this creep? If our laws were designed to protect the public from such insanity, he shoulda been fried the first time he murdered!!

Once again the liberal justice system fails society and the result is four dead citizens.

If the Stockton schoolyard shooter had been locked up instead of constantly having his crimes plea bargained away or dismissed, he would not have been able to buy the AK he used. His record was so embarrassing to the authorities that a judge ordered it sealed.

Yeah, must be the fault of law-abiding gun owners.

It is indeed a sad day when firefighters are made targets of such cowards!

Here in California, a local jurisdiction has long been ahead of the rest by having a Public Safety Officer tasked with being both a firefighter and law enforcement officer. I am surprised that more agencies haven't followed suit.

My condolences to the victims and their families.

    Steve
