    +1 on 1oz #8 @1180 although I have had equally good results with 1oz #8 @ 1145 but by going to 1180 I shoot handicaps as well.

I've been trying Alliants new Extra Lite powder for 1oz loads, very happy so far. Remington gun club hull, 1oz 7.5 hard shot, Federal primer, 15gr powder under a CB4100-12B wad: should be 1150 fps and under 9500 psi. Clean, consistent, seems to pattern well out of my lt full choke. John Terre

The answer for tracyhunter is, whatever you want, as long as its under the ATA limit.

I load to about 1150 fps, and use number 8-1/2 shot. But honestly, 8's or 7-1/2's will work fine too.

The main reason most people go to 1 ounce loads is to manage recoil. Going to 1 ounce and hopping up the speed is counter-productive in that regard.

I'd recommend you use whatever speed you were using before (assuming you were shooting 1-1/8 ounce loads) and start there.

My 1 oz loads are, like several above, #8s at 1180 fps. However, you mention "at 16 yards" and that load has been, for me, 7/8 oz with #9s at 1220 fps.......breakemall

well, i shot a big 50 tonight w/1oz loads.23-24 from 16yd.great for me.then went to h/c. used factory 1 1/8 7.5's at 1200fps,and shot a big 17.went back to 1oz #8 and shot a 21.so I think 1oz 's may be the way to go.a couple of questions. what choke do most of you use,and how do you come up with 1180fps loads.I use amer.selct. they have 1150-1200 loads,do you split the difference or what.I think i have every wad down range makes so i can load most anything.and for those that shoot 8.5,are you fast shooters?I am old and slow so i don't know if i want to try 8.5's.

    thank's again trace

I use 19.4 grains of Clays with an STS shell, WindJammer wad and 7 1/2 shot. Velocity is about 1,250.

Yeah, just essentially split the difference of the grains of American Select to get 1180 (that'll be close enough.)

I wouldn't worry about using 8-1/2's with your shooting style. They'll work. Try them. If you don't like them, go back to 8's or 7-1/2's.

Improved modified (.725") choke works fine for me in a .740" bore.

My 1 oz load is AA hulls and AA-209's. Green Duster or Downrange XL-1 wad. 17.5 gr of Promo. With #8 shot. Should run at about 1200 fps

I only use it for practice and it works very well. My little pea brain still tells me to use 1 1/8 when shooting registered.
