I've been reading about the new 17 rimfire magnum cartridge, and noticed that Savage introduced a new rife for the cartridge at the Shot Show. I understand that the ammunition should begin to ship in April, but I cannot find any information about the availability of the rifle. If I can find a still day on the praire, the cartridge's performance looks awsome.

    Anyone heard anything?

What's new about the 17 HMR? I've had one for over 5 years.

He's asking about the new .17 Win Super Mag, not the HMR. Savage is coming out with a new model chambered for the new round. It's the Savage B.Mag. So far as I know, it is not yet available but "coming soon."

I've done some research on the new round and Savage rifle. On a video I saw claimed the rifle weighed in at 4 1/2 lbs. I don't know about you guys, but I want a rifle with some heft. I never could shoot a light rifle worth a hoot. The round looks like a super fun varmint round I haven't been able to find pricing on a box of ammo yet. Might be better to go with the 17 Remington and reload. Larry

MSRP on gthe gun is supposed to be $349. I sent a note to Shyda's today asking about availability and they responded that they had no information on it yet. Don't know what's on the rack at Miller's in DE.

In the UTube videos they were shooting an 1885 Winchester in .17 WSM. Then I saw that Winchester will be bringing that gun out in .17 Winchester Super Mag for around $1,400. Somewhere else I read the Savage weighed 7.5 pounds.

Looked at the one on gunbroker. It is not the new one, is a 17hmr. The new one is 17 Win mag rimfire. With the gun availability the way it is now, who knows when we will see them. They said they would be out first of May, but who knows.

HOT D@MN !!! Another LOL caliber... I have been praying for EXACTLY these specs, too.
Seriously, it is gratifying to see Winchester showing signs of life.

I've been looking for a Browning or Winchester 1885 Single Shot Low Wall for some time in .17 HMR as well as possibly in .22 LR.

Now Winchester has brought out not one but FOUR 1885 Single Shot Low Walls for 2013. These are available in 22 LR, 22 WMRF, 17 HMR and the new 17 Win Super Mag!

The only drawback is Winchester substantially jacked the price up. These were in the $1000 range, now the MSRP is $1470. Ouch. They're pretty proud of those guns.

(And for those who believe from my posts that AR15s are my favorite guns, they aren't. 1885 Single Shots are. I might even have to sell off a nice .223 AK to get one of these.)

The new cartridge is not rimfire. It is called the 17 hornet, as was derrived by necking down the 22hornet, Savage has made it available in the mod 25 rifle. Hornady is making ammo. We have the rifle and ammo at the local store i work part time at. Again it is a centerfire cartridge.
