The RXP hulls date around the mid 70s.

I bought quite a few of those cardboard containers back then. Seems to me I paid around 3-4.00 a lb. at the time.

The good old days I guess.

I think the lowest price I paid for the 15 lb keg like the one pictured was in the the $60.00 range. That was somewhere in the mid 1980's.

They later came out with the 8 pounders in the same kind of container and sold them in a package of two.

When I started reloading, in 1964, I paid about 30.oo for that size Red Dot.

That keg was probably sold in the 60s sometime. Powder was about 2 bucks a pound.

I still have all the metal 12 pound kegs I ever bought. I use them as supports for shelves in my workshop. They bring back such memories. I also have a bunch of the 15 pound cardboard containers. I store stuff in them to avoid throwing them away. They will all go in the giveaway pile at my estate sale. Welcome to the new world.

If you can find the lot number on the keg and contact Alliant (formerly Hercules) they can tell you exactly when that drum rolled off of the line.

This case was purchased new at the Grand in Vandalia in 1936. I sold the A.H.Fox it protected and now the case. Inside dimensions are 33.25" X 6" X 2.75". The basket weave leather pattern was a premium feature.

Make me an offer by PM or email, leave your name and phone number and I'll call you to discuss the sale. If a bid is made I will come back to this posting and update the latest high offer.

-OR-Call me if you would like to discuss the case.

I can remember all the 8# kegs of IMR rifle powder,4350,4895,3031,4064,etc that I bought from Hodgden for $16.00 keg. This was back in the early 70's. At that time a good wage was $5.00-6.00 hr. But for the life of me ,I cannot remember the price of shotgun powders.
