    I have a question, do the piston and the piston seal slide up and down on the magazine tube when the gun is fired, or do they stay up by the o-ring? I guess I don't have a very good idea as to how the gas system really functions.

    They follow the action sleeve (what you're calling the piston) when fired, assuming the action doesn't get so fouled from cleaning neglect that they stick.
