My 1100 which has a long history of very rare malfunctions, has recently had a rash of mysterious malfunctions. They were caused by none of the usual suspects.

Today I removed the forend and barrel and a added a couple drops of BreakFreeCLP in preparation for tomorrow's shooting. When the forend balked when I tried to replace it I discovered the forend support was bent, then broken.

Luckily I had a spare but I wondering if the bent forend support could be the source of the malfunctions. How?

They break, and are easy to replace. No biggie.

They usually last about 5000 rounds. I always carry a spare, but have been known to finish a shoot without one. The biggest trouble usually occurs when a piece breaks off of the support and gets lodged inside the action, especially in the trigger assembly.
