For the turkey season I put camo tape on my wife's 20g 101. when I took the tape off,the finish came with it,leaving the white walnut stock exposed.
I tried staining the wood, but it would not take it evenly, after a big sanding job I'm wondering about a color tinted clear laquer or oil. Any ideas on what to use and how to use it are welcome. Thanx in advance'

I'd probably strip it. Sanding down leaves some finish in the pores and to make it look great again you'll need to start over, completely strip, sand, stain, and finish. Staining isn't much of a chore, just takes time and you need to remember it'll look darker with finish on it. keep finishing process ina different room from sanding. The finish is like a magnet and will attract all kinds o dust and lint. good luck
