I am pretty new to trap shooting and have a question about 100 straight.
We had a young man shoot 75 straight (last three round) was in a shoot off and ran 25, does that count as a 100? Asked at the shoot got different answers.
It would be his first 100.
    Thanks

    Shootoff's don't count.

To be counted as a run it must be the "Event" targets.

Your basic question has been asked and answered many times. To (hopefully) avoid a long rehash of previously plowed ground, let me distill the various answers you will hear into two points.

    1. The young man shot well and should be congratulated for doing so.

    2. To qualify as a competition 100 straight (ATA, for example), the targets must be in the same event. Carry overs to other events and shootoff targets aren't included.

The accuracy of item #2 notwithstanding, the young man can call it whatever he wants as long as he explains the circumstances - 75 straight in competition and 25 more in the shootoff.

It has always been my understanding that:

A "straight" is exactly like #2 in the above post.

A "run" is targets broken consecutively regardless of the time frame or similar events shot.

So in my opinion your young man had a run of a 100 targets, which is good shooting no matter who you are. Good job!!

If he wants a patch, give him a patch. If not, he at least earned a 75 Straight patch. Mark

    75 straight.

Shootoffs do not count for straights nor runs in ATA comp.

Personal records you can call it 100...

It is a 100 straight in that the guy now knows he is capable of breaking 100 targets in a row. This confidence boosting tidbit is worth more than any score recorded in any book.

It is not a 100 straight in any other sense - but who cares, good shooting is good shooting.
