I was listening to talk radio today and heard on 2 different shows that there were now over a 100 million people in this country on welfare. 100 MILLION?? I assumed that number HAD to include people on Social Security.

I put "100 million on welfare" into a search engine and several hits came up reporting that indeed there are now 100 million people now receiving assitance from the Federal government. And that number does not include people on Social Security.

100 million people! 1 in 3 of us! How in the hell can this country survive?

    I think it is over.

It might not be "over" but we're definitely nearing the tipping point.

There will come a day when "conservative," to many people, will mean maintaining the benefits that are already there. Nobody will remember not having had them; the idea of reducing it will not seem severe, but simply foreign.

Social benefits + people being allowed to reproduce freely = disaster. No civilization has been able to avoid it yet; we are circling the drain.

But, we've seen the microcosm of that right here on TS.com. Look at the big dustup that ensued when someone wondered about the number of people right on this site who are paying for their trap targets with disability money. What? I don't begrudge people who are genuinely disabled getting what they "paid for," but...Rush Limbaugh reported 85,000 new disability filings were made in June alone, I think was the month. Really? Wow.

Let the elites do whatever they want...it doesn't matter, never has. The middle class and its willingness to get up in the morning was _always_ the barometer of this nation. The middle class loses its work ethic, and we are done, done, done.

    We're already there Buzz....
When you hear a Democrat whining about a Federal benefit program being "CUT"...what they are whining about is a reduction in the RATE OF INCREASE.!!
NOTHING is actually CUT...as in ELIMINATED.

This is the Democrat's (socialistic) plan to keep power. Keep the majority of the population dependent on you and you will always be in power. I can't believe the number of supposedly smart people who don't see it or are unwilling to accept the fact that many of the people in our government today, mostly Democrat's, were indoctrinated with socialistic ideals as they grew up. I personally feel that we have reached the point where there is no turning back and what we are seeing is here to stay.

And yet this November the underclass, whose breeding and sloth we've been increasingly subsidizing for decades - especially the last 4 years - will re-elect one of their own for President. The ghetto give-aways will continue, and increase. National debt will blow past $18-Trillion and race toward 20 without even hitting a speedbump.

All the while we will collectively yawn and flip the TV over to American Idol.

Americans aren't what they used to be, that's for damn sure.

This is how bad things have gotten. It will only get worse.

Unemployment in Detroit is almost 25%. I believe over half of the city is on some form of welfare/assistance.

I live about 30 miles from the epicenter and am leaving the area. We will GOOD (Get Out Of Dodge) - in this case the D also stands for Detroit.

Definately agree with the masses on this one. This country is no different than many companies who have many more retirees than workers. Mathematically, we are upside down. More collecting than paying in. And the real shame of it all is the collective dopes are about to re elect the scoundrel who preaches that the ones paying in are greedy and evil.

I still love it when some( a few) on here call me a "conspiracy theorist". Wake the f*** up people. Just because thing happen slowly and incrementally,it doesn't mean they aren't happening. These liberals are patient and don't mind moving slowly. Only thing is, Bama has sped the process up big time. I would imagine he wants to be able to take credit for it all.

What we all see as the destruction of our country, he sees as Nirvana.

Steve you are right, it's kind of like the thing with a frog, you put it in a pot of cool water and slowly increase the heat it won't notice the water getting hotter until it's too late

And that is the problem with our country too many people ignore stuff that should alarm them simply because it doesn't effect them, but for ever liberty that is taken it just one more that we will never see again and they will start working on another one until they get to the things that effect the people who ignored the warning signs

    Catpower,
Gotta agree with that one too. I have held a long standing theory that the fundamental problem witht this country is everyone is spoiled.People in general take everything for granted, because they have always had it.

Just about every single person in this country has had it good and easy their whole lives. Before I get flooded with PM's, follow me.

Other than some sort of unforseen tragedy, accident, bad health issue,or some other type of thing that affected an individual of family, I am right.

Unless you are of an age where you either served in WW2 or were back home at that time,we as a country have had it easy. Exemption for anyone that was on active duty in any other war or conflict, of course. Other than WW2,however, they didn't really affect those back home. There was no rationing or other type of sacrifice. No one's life was greatly altered because of any other conflict. Your father didn't all of a sudden disappear for a few years,(or forever)and your mother had to start working in a factory making tanks. Then it was up to your 12 year old sister to take care of things at home. I was in grade school during Vietnam. Saw it on the news, that was about it.

My point being if you never really had it tough, it is easy to be complacent. That is where we are as a country.Remember how your grandparents, born in 1900ish, never threw anything away? Might never get one again. That's called being used to doing without.Just look around. Sad but true. It allows people like B Hussein the ability to do what they do, mostly unnoticed.

Add in those getting a federal pension and a military pension.

Now how many people are we up to who get their living from the government?

Look at all the people on Medicare, Medicaid and V.A. benefits.

How many we up to now?

Now look at all the people who work for some other form of government, such as a state or municipal unit. Cops, firemen, government workers.

How many we up to now?

Now look at all the people who work at a state college or university.

How many we up to now?

Now look at all the people who work at a place that gets government money, like hospitals and prisons.

How many we up to now?

How many people live in their house because the government gives them a mortgage deduction?

How many we up to now?

When you look at everyone who gets some from of money from a government, it's far past majority. I'd have to put it at 1 in 10 households who don't get any form of fed or state dollar coming into the house.

    Hey Buzzy,

If you want to see welfare West Virginia style up close and personal, you gotta check out "The Wonderful Whites of West Virginia". It was on Showtime, and I think you can find it on demand.Or I'm sure online somewhere.

I could write for hours about it,but just watch it.All I can say is oh my God, Holy S**T! Absolutley worth the two hours.

I went back and looked at the 1910 cenus. The total population of the US a hundred years ago was 92 million. Now we have more than that just on welfare! I have read some reports where they say 110 million instead of 100 million. And remember those numbers don't count the people whom are on social security!

Almost 50 million people on food stamps! Think about that. There are more people on food stamps in the US than there are people in Argentina!

You all got your shorts in a wad over PROPAGANDA. The 100 million number includes all the people living in a household where one or more people are receiving some sort of welfare. If your divorced daughter moves back into your home with her kids, and they're on WIC, you and the wife get counted too. It's dishonest crap.
