Ten years of statistics in Minnesota show that a concealed carry permit holder has discharged a weapon justifiably in only five instances across the state in the last 10 years. However, in that same time frame, 124 concealed carry permit holders have been convicted for crimes related to the use of the concealed weapon.

As I have said many times before, the decision to leave your home with a concealed weapon is a decision that shouldn't be taken lightly. I am pro-permit to carry, I just want people to understand there are risks associated with it. It is not for everybody.

“That doesn’t show when a firearm deters an actual crime from taking place,” John Munson, owner of Bill’s Gun Shop in Robbinsdale, said of the figures. “Visibility or knowledge of a firearm is a deterrent, but those don’t get reported.”

Ah, yes, the Minneapolis Star Tribune - the New York Times wannabe of the midwest!

Ever wonder what that yellowish tinge to the paper it's printed on was?

Nothing more than their usual biased opinion masquerading as objective fact.

Local LEO do not have to give details to the BCA of the crime. Could be someone shooting their gun in the air on the 4th of July?

Anyway, that is a big so what statistic. 124 out of 119,500 CCW holders, is a whopping 0.001% That is actually incredibly low, and it is over a 10 year period. 12.4 per year. There were 300 DWI arrests over the 2013 new year holiday.

    Selective reporting.

Of the 124 gun-related crimes committed by permit holders in Minnesota since 2003, 19 were assaults, 10 were for carrying under the influence, six were for drug-related crimes and one was a homicide.

What were the other 88 crimes?
