A buddy and I were talking at work. From my basic understanding, Mitt Romney has held many positions where he did not collect a paycheck, or only recieved a $1 paycheck. Wouldn't it be great to announce that he would not draw a paycheck if elected president. I am not saying this would ensure his victory, but I think it would send a ton of votes his way. He could use this angle to show that we need to cut back spending, and he is going to lead by example, at the highest level of government.

Most Presidents, if not all, give their salary away to charity of some kind or needy organization anyway.
So Mitt would not be doing anything special that Presidents before him have not done.

But if he announced it, it would have more validation.

The next question would be how much of his salary has Obama donated to a good cause? His personal wealth has increased substantially since he became President.

    Would be interesting to know.

Agreed Setterman. It would also give him a platform to talk about his work history where he has not recieved a paycheck for a good part of his working career. This may also "bring home down to earth", for those people that make that crazy argument. Mainly, it hammers the point that the economy needs fixed, and the public sector is included in that.

As an FYI the Presidential salary is $400,000 per year plus a non taxable $50,000 per year for office expenses.

I don't think Obama donated his salary to charity.

Hey Barrel. Us Pittsburghers gotta stick together. I have never lived in a more conservative minded place that goes to the dems every year. Got love Philly, and the old school minded steel union workers mentality. I graduated with Ravenstal at W&J. Let me just say that he is not cut out for the position, unless you can list college frat parties as work experience. I was there.

    Mixer,
I believe the correct figure in salary for the President is currently $800,000 per year plus $unlimited for staff and extras.

Obama probably donated his to the NAACP, Miss Black America, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharptons, Rev (I hate America and white people) Wright ... His kids are collecting big pay checks for being advisors or diplimats or something ... His Wide Glide ass old lady can hardly wait so she can go on another vacation at the Tax payers expense ... I got a toilet seat with Obama's picture on it just so I can do my business in his face ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Chuckie, I believe mixer had it correct. Clinton got the salary doubled to 400,000 during his term.

Maybe Romney can donate his presidential salary to the NRA.

More anti-Romney BS. No matter what the subject it's always the same from Mr. "I won't vote for Romney no matter what". At least it will finally end in November I hope.

How about we pay President Romney based on his performance ?

    Measurable Criteria to consider:

    Growth rate of US GDP
    Change in unemployment
    Change in government spending
Putting the annual budget into balance
Putting in place a plan to pay down the national debt
Keeping the US safe from attack
    Firing all unnecessary government employees

Obama sure hasn't donated much of his salary, they listed how much they donated I think it was about 3% or his salary

Biden donated something like $300-400 total
