Best patterns regarding powders from your favorite 1 oz. load and the most consistent. Velocity of 1250 approx. Have used e3 and claydot but the patterns should be better and more consistent IMHO. Have not tried Red Dot but maybe I should. Barrel and chokes are as good as it gets and using Rem. STS Mag. shot with Fed. Chedd. and or Fio. primers. Tried a lot of different wads and found the 12SO/Rem. hull to be the best. If you have a favorite 1 oz. load around 1250fps., would appreciate your thoughts.

I have always been fond of Red Dot or Promo for my 1oz loads.

Slow it down to 1150 or so and you will like the patterns better. I like CLAYS for 1 Oz loads but there are several other powders that work very well.

Solo 1000 patterns great with next to nothing on the recoil side. You won't find a cleaner burning powder. George

STS hull & Rem primer,TGT 1oz wad,1 oz shot & 16.3-4 of Clays get me about 1160-80fps. I have chrono'ed & patterned this load in many guns many times. Start here & go up 1/2 grain at a time til you get what you want. I would say about 17.5 of powder. But the recoil will be noticably more. I have literally shot 10's of 1000's of the 16.3 load. It is one of my favorite. If you want a 7/8 oz load, just use a gray wad & 7/8. This goes out about 1200. But please, don't change any componants. It has been my experience in this load, these work the best as costly dollar wise as they may be. Tom Lobonc

PB, International, e3 and GD would be good selections at reasonable pressures.

Feather Light will not work. Red Dot/Promo have some loads at 1250 fps.

Check out the Alliant and Hodgdon sites.

Powder has nothing to do with the pattern... read Jones' book.

My two favorites are American Select and Solo 1000 for 1 ounce loads. I've also used a ton of Red Dot and Promo, but never liked either of those as much as the others.

I dont know how your going to get much better patterns with a different powder than e3 or claydot. Maybe a different wad before powder.
Here is my favorite 1 oz load.

p.s. No wad expert here...but...isnt the 12SO wad designed for straight wall hulls not for tapered Rem's

I load 18gr. of Red Dot, Cheddite primer, DR-XL1 wad in an STS or Gun Club hull. Also loaded a lot of 700X for 1oz. loads.

I spent many years chronographing 1 oz loads searching for the perfect choice. Bar none, 700x gave me the lowest standard deviations (equals consistency). This result covered original AA hulls and STS/Nitro 27 hulls, #8 shot and, generally, the Winchester 12SL wad or CB clones for the 12SL, and powder drops ranging from 16.7 to 17 grains at various times. It got me several 100s at singles in the other century......breakemall

Agree Clays or Clay Dot. I do use Green Dot for higher vel with my 1 ounce hdcp loads. See Alliant loading booklet.
