It is a comp 4 ,that is what they call it in the Ithaca brochure .It really is a TM1 with choke tubes and the stripes. The winchester import one with choke tubes was a TMS some had tapered rib ,no stripes.Paul
If it has strips on the receiver,it could be a Ithaca Perazzi import. The TMS is basically a TM-1 with factory choke tubes. I have the Ithaca imported TMS with stripes SR # 6605. Typically it will say on the barrel who imported it, Ithaca or Winchester. Some TMS do not have the stripes. I have the original Test Certificate and Gurantee card that came with the gun. It states the model as TMS.
Striped perazzi's came out for the montreal olympics-they came just after the ithaca imports and most were I think imported by winchester but don't quote me on that.
It's my understanding that the rules were changed for the Montreal Olympics in regards to logo sizes and commercial markings on guns. So Perazzi started the striping to identify their guns. Mainly it was done for the MT-6, and since the TM-1 used a very similar coil spring lockwork they used the stripes so that American shooters could identify w/ the guns used in the Olympics.
This only lasted a few years as gun marking rules changed in the Olympics and the stripes never really caught on.
"If it has stripes on the receiver,it could be an Ithaca Perazzi import. The TMS is basically a TM-1 with factory choke tubes" Bingo, that's fits what I have perfectly. thanks, Bruce
