$100K Challenge?

How is this going to work? They say a qualifier from each of the nine handicap events will shoot for the cash. From what i see it will be a 27 yarder winner. If i guy wins one of the handicap events from 20,21,22,23,24,25 he will be moved back 2 1/2 yards. Being he has not shot from the new yardage the odds of a short yarder winning is slim. Is ths correct? If the big dogs win this cash it will be doom for the grand. Pro class?

At an ATA registered shoot, if you win yardage in a handicap event, you will shoot from that new yardage at the next registered handicap event that you participate in, whether it is the next day, week, or month. The $100K Challenge is being treated like another registered event, so--if you win one of the nine handicap events, and earn yardage, and qualify to shoot the "challenge", you will shoot from your earned yardage. This challenge is not being considered a "shoot-off" where you would normally shoot from the yardage that you were on before you won that event. This a just like shooting the tenth handicap event of the Grand.

If this shoot-out is going to be handled that way, it's an unfair decision. I wonder why it wasn't a shoot-out for 27 yard shooters only in the first place?

If honor yardage was added to that equation, then its a fair game. This new idea will certainly place a 27 yard shooter at a great advantage over any short yardage shooter earning new yardage!

If this prize is privately-funded, then the donor sets the rules. I don't think that anyone will have much say in the matter.

I'm hoping that some of the legendary shooters that have stopped shooting the Grand will come out of the woodwork, so I can watch. I would go to the Grand just to see that.

Recurve, I think small guys win big shoots all the time, but in this case they have to do it twice in the same week and for 100000.00. I have shot for 4-5000 got my legs shaky. Don't get me mistaken I would like to see a small guy win it.By big dog it doesn't have to be 1 of 5 or 6 people. I think each area has a group of shooters just under leo harlan etc. that in the area would not be considered small guy. munson, ross etc.

When I talked with the donor at Tucson, his hopes was to increase participation in ATA shooting, period. I also think the phone lines were on fire to him concerning the possibility of a short yardage shooter winning an event and shooting from there again?

Ricky Marshall and I agreed if it comes down to just the two of us left, we're going to shoot off from the 50 yard line with regulation trap loads. :)

Hap, I can tell you one thing. A week ago a few of us shot from the 30 just for S&G"s. One legitimate 27 ydr and a couple of wannabe's. 30 yds is not the answer. The big guys would master that in about 30 minutes. 50 yds is a lot of concrete. (LOL) Check you PM's please. Thanks, Bob
